where have they gone?

Looking at threads/posts from 2012 and 2013 there are so many people who no longer post on here. I realise that some may well have died [though not too many I hope]. I wondered if this was just a normal thing, that people came in , posted for a while, maybe a year and then lost interest.Perhaps that's it.

More than few posters have left Gransnet because they found it boring.

Tegan Sat 12-Apr-14 00:46:34

Can you elaborate on the 'demanding a personal apology' jingle as, yet again, I seem to be misunderstanding you sad.

Aka Fri 11-Apr-14 23:04:56

I'm saying nothing either moon

Ana Fri 11-Apr-14 22:42:32

Me too, merlot, but it looks as though it's heading that way! moon

A few months ago there were quite a few ding-dongs which resulted in speculation that GNHQ might be concerned about the reaction from advertisers. I don't know if this is true but what will happen if Gransnet becomes so bland and uninteresting that posts dwindle to the point that nobody bothers with it?

I think I'd rather be ducking behind the sofa every time somebody mentions the DM than terminal boredom.

But you need neither read nor contribute to threads you do not like or do not have any interest in. There are many threads which I ignore or after one quick look do not go back to. It doesn't mean that I do not enjoy Gransnet and the threads I do contribute to.

I think if you have a busy life you want non aggression. As my mother used to say oh for a little hum drum.

rosequartz Fri 11-Apr-14 20:11:49

St. Jingles has a certain ring to it.

I shall contact the Pope.

I am an unapologetic reader of the Daily Mail - and the Independent. I read the Mail for its very good money and health supplements and because everyday there is at least one article I can get really splenetic about and have a damn good rant. It does me a power of good.

I do miss the more controversial subjects on Gransnet. What I liked about them was the ability for almost all of those contributing to argue points strongly without getting personal or abusive.

I am with Merlot, Gransnet is not as lively a sit was and I find I contribute less.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Apr-14 19:08:34

Thank you Nonu. I will put my thumb in my mouth and go to shushabyes. smile

Ana Fri 11-Apr-14 19:07:44

Your penultimate post was spot-on, IMO, jingl. And I don't intend to elaborate, either.

Nonu Fri 11-Apr-14 19:06:37

Jingle

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Apr-14 18:56:49

I'm saying no more.

Iam64 Fri 11-Apr-14 18:52:26

What do you mean Jingle, 'no point in making anyone out to be a saint'. It's been a long day, and maybe my brains fogged, but I don't understand your comment.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Apr-14 18:46:06

There is definitely less nastiness these days. Because some posters aren't posting anymore, for one reason or another. No point in making anyone out to be a saint.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Apr-14 18:43:21

And - quoting Tegan - "Why should we want Gransnet to be an aggressive place? Isn't being grown up about being pleasant to people and thinking before we say things, even on a forum?

Yes, it might be about being "pleasant" to people and "thinking before we say things", but it could also be about not taking things personally when they obviously aren't meant that way. And then even expecting a personalised apology! hmm

More ways than one of being aggresive.

ffinnochio Fri 11-Apr-14 18:41:16

jingle You've just reminded me - it's also a place to have fun.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Apr-14 18:39:17

Tegan, you totally misunderstood me.

Never mind.

ffinnochio Fri 11-Apr-14 18:39:03

...and even if I don't engage much, I certainly sit back and read. Learn a lot that way.

MiniMouse Fri 11-Apr-14 18:37:58

NellieM I know what you mean! It's terrifyingly addictive and I don't need any encouragement to avoid dealing with all the housey stuff and clutter!!

ffinnochio Fri 11-Apr-14 18:36:50

GN is at it is. It changes along with the mix of posters. The dynamics constantly ebb and flow. It's a forum for all ideas, thoughts and feelings for those who wish to engage with it.
For those who find it rather bland, or too nice, then throw in a challenge or two for a robust debate. Engage others with new ideas. If not then there's a gentle ride.
A good debate is a way of hearing many points of view which I find can be illuminating in checking my own stance on any given subject.
Kindness, intellectual rigor, compassion, defensiveness and cranky/crabby moments are all here - plenty to choose from as and when.

Nelliemoser Fri 11-Apr-14 18:35:55

I haven't posted a lot lately. I am not sure why, maybe the threads themselves have not appealed or because of other personal distractions.

Partly I have tried to spend less time on GN and actually do other things.

Once I start on here in a morning its hard to get off again.

rosesarered Fri 11-Apr-14 18:33:17

There are some names on here that I am envious of envy....... I wish now that I had thought up a better posting name. Still, I do like red roses.

Nonu Fri 11-Apr-14 18:30:48

Gosh, I love the word NICE, can"t be bothered to think of anything else these days , it was an awful long time since I was at school!!
Still what ever floats your boats gals .

smile smile

MargaretX Fri 11-Apr-14 17:50:21

You must have gone to the same school as did. Never say nice - but it is a useful word. When Greatnan was posting GN was much livelier because she posted so many threads each day and always had a view for or against. I feel maybe we don't have the time to post on 20 threads each day, I definitely don't .
Still I keep up with GN in a daily basis.
