Ironing? What's that?

My daughter gave me her iron because mine had died and she never used her's. She also gave me her 2 year old for the day.
I settled the grandchild out of harm's way and started work, singing "Dashing away with a smoothing iron".
"What are you doing?" asked grandchild in alarm.
"Ironing"
"Why?"
I explained the theory and practice of ironing as steam began to hiss and grandchild covered her ears, "Before the big bang comes," she said.
So ironing is no longer done and we had better all stop.

GranniePam In WW1 the soldiers in the trenches would light a match and run it along the seams of their clothes to kill the lice hiding in there - so it could be true that ironing kills off them and their eggs. One housekeeping chore we can miss out, thank god.
