Who's still here, nearly 3 years on?

I suppose it's inevitable that some of the original Gransnetters will have fallen away, but who is still here, that joined within the first few months? I joined a couple of months in (changing my name once).
I find I don't post as much now, though, and when I think of it, neither do many of the 'originals', though they do pop up sometimes, so they haven't left altogether. Of course, it's very possible that some of the 'originals' have changed their names and are still posting away merrily - though we can't include jingl in this of course wink)!

I joined on the day Gransnet started. I saw on my newsfeed that there was a new forum starting for grans and stepped in. I've never changed my name and there are very few days when I haven't at least found time for a quick peek. I post most days and have been to three meet ups. My family and friends all know who I am on here and occasionally (very often in fact) tease me about my 'addiction', but are all very supportive. It's been a great experience. smile

Yes indeed, Baubles. There is a picture of the meet, in August 2012, on my profile. As the photo was taken by yourself, there are only five of us in it.

Having read all your messages I checked to see when I joined and it was August 2011, I am surprised it was so long ago! How time flies. I don't post as much but check in quite often in case I miss anything...
I felt a while ago there was something missing, but maybe we all need a break and then return recharged......so to,speak. grin

2011, Autumn, I think. Gransnet was already quite well-populated by then.

Grannyknot Sat 29-Mar-14 14:26:01

Oh BTW, I don't know when GN started. So can't say whether or not I've been here since any beginning! I just stumbled on to it, can't remember where I found out about it. Never been on Mumsnet and it doesn't sound very appealing!

Grannyknot Sat 29-Mar-14 14:23:03

Me too, bookdreamer - June 2011 and kept my name.

baubles Sat 29-Mar-14 14:03:38

Marelli indeed I had, just two or three weeks before.

It was a great day. Gally was in Oz I think, & there was you, Bags, G23, Soop, *absent (hard to believe you're on the other side of the world now). Who have I missed?

bookdreamer Sat 29-Mar-14 13:34:11

I joined July 2011 and still have the same name. Hardly ever post but look every day.

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 13:15:18

I was at the Kelvingrove meet up as well. I was so excited at meeting everyone - I think there were about 6 of us? We all began chatting and did so for such a long time that we almost forgot to order lunch! DH had a wander round the museum in the meantime. baubles, you'd just joined, I remember?

baubles Sat 29-Mar-14 13:06:56

I'm not one of the originals but like G23 I was at the meet up at Kelvingrove and felt very accepted.

I've looked in on Gnet almost every day since and although I'm not a prolific poster this community is very much part of my life.

Nonu Sat 29-Mar-14 13:02:23

I am not really sure how long I have been a member think it is 3 years .
I have always kept the same name though !

smile I LOVE GRANSNET
seems to be lot friendlier these days

Granny23 Sat 29-Mar-14 12:56:59

I'm another who came over from the 'Dark Side' in May 2011, using my Mumsnet user name. At first I found Gransnet somewhat pedestrian compared with MN but as MN got more and more fast paced, sweary and argumentative, I began to appreciate the gentler, warmer climate here. I was fortunate (and brave enough) to take part in the very first Gransnet meetup at Kelvingrove, which was a totally amazing experience. I think I posted at the time saying it was as if characters in a favourite book had come to life and were having lunch together. I feel that I belong to GN. It is an integral part of my daily life.

I did join a very similar sounding forum after my previous favourite shut down but we are far superior IMHO ( brownie points please GHQ)

shysal Sat 29-Mar-14 12:53:30

I remember the speculation about which member was Polly T. I know Jingle was 'accused' on one occasion!

Galen Sat 29-Mar-14 12:51:52

I joined in December 2011 after being encouraged to join by my daughter

tanith Sat 29-Mar-14 12:44:37

I joined October 2011 still using the same and check in most days

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 12:42:15

Gally, I think I read about it in the Observer, and saw something about Polly Toynbee perhaps joining. That started off quite a 'thing' and it all got quite heated. shock

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 12:39:54

She's just a young thing, jingl! Not even 60 yet, I'm sure.
kitty commented that she doesn't 'know' the more recent posters as she did do when we all first started out, and she thinks that's why she doesn't post as much now. I think that's what it is with me, too. Not at all the same, I know, but when we moved up to Scotland in the 70's it was to a brand-new 'estate'. All the houses were new and in an area where there had been no previous homes, therefore all the residents were (mainly) also new to each other. We built up a really good relationship with a largish group, and are still friends today, though we've all moved on from there. As other residents moved in to the houses that were vacated, the friendships didn't build the same.
It's still important though, to continue to add in our two-penn'orth, isn't it - because we don't just want to fade away.....hmm.....or the 'newer' posters won't know who/what shaped Gransnet at its start wink.

Mamie Sat 29-Mar-14 12:27:07

Think I was May 2011 too and still on the same user name.

Gally Sat 29-Mar-14 12:23:18

I joined in May 2011 and still have the same boring old name - can't be bothered to change it - yet...
I saw an article about Gransnet in the Sunday Times and though I'd give it a go. I was very tentative to start with, bit of a shrinking violet, but gradually got the confidence to put in my two pennyworth. No stopping me now grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 29-Mar-14 12:22:52

Gagagran only if you made a profile. Some people first learned about Gransnet because the "bosses" (ha!) were threatening promising it on Mumsnet.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 29-Mar-14 12:18:04

shock you are going to hate me for the "old" bit there!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 29-Mar-14 12:17:23

Phoenix! you daffy old bugger

janeainsworth Sat 29-Mar-14 12:13:02

Well I'm feeling decidedly left out!
And I couldn't even think of a clever username!
[piqued emoticon]

Gagagran Sat 29-Mar-14 12:10:42

How do you all remember the date you joined? I think I've been on since 2011 but is there a date of joining somewhere?
