Who's still here, nearly 3 years on?

I suppose it's inevitable that some of the original Gransnetters will have fallen away, but who is still here, that joined within the first few months? I joined a couple of months in (changing my name once).
I find I don't post as much now, though, and when I think of it, neither do many of the 'originals', though they do pop up sometimes, so they haven't left altogether. Of course, it's very possible that some of the 'originals' have changed their names and are still posting away merrily - though we can't include jingl in this of course wink)!

I joined in November 2011 so I suppose I am one of the old timers!

I agree glass. I quite often found her 'fighting spirit' offputting but we seem to have lost some heart! sad

I think losing Carol knocked the status quo on here, we all were left reeling and it will take time if ever to return to the old GN.

I joined just over a year ago after watching gransnet and mums net for a while. So glad I did. I got to 'know' Carol S and I do miss her contributions to discussions.

Marelli Sun 30-Mar-14 17:52:38

I've been thinking about Carol over the last few days, too. sad It's still hard to comprehend.

I was one of the first to join and got a prize for that - a Ninetendo DS. At one time I won about 8 books in total. I don't look in every day as I used to. Have never changed my name as I haven't annoyed anyone to the extent I felt I had to. Haven't met with anyone as the few I'd like to meet live miles away. I have private messaged a few, one more often as she is very much on my wave length.
A lot of things have changed but with constant coming and going that's expected. It's an excellent forum.
Do you think 'Hunter' has ever appeared again? My he was trouble.

glassortwo Sun 30-Mar-14 17:20:35

I also wonder howpompa is.

glassortwo Sun 30-Mar-14 17:19:15

Carol is missed by us all. sad Hard to believe its 6mths. I have just read the post her DD had posted on FB I filled up. sad

Galen Sun 30-Mar-14 17:13:51

I miss Carol

6 months to the day, a thought for a friend who is no longer with us, sadly.

kittylester Sun 30-Mar-14 16:31:19

Wasn't bags here from the beginning?

shysal Sun 30-Mar-14 16:10:11

glammanana, I agree about the grandads, I especially miss Pompa, a sensitive soul, I always think of him when I see Tiptree jam, made where he lives. I would like to think he is still lurking - if you are reading this please send us a sign!

nanapug Sun 30-Mar-14 14:51:44

Yes, I was one of the originals but had to change my name as it was obvious who I was, and I was worried that DDs MiL would come on and recognise me!! I won some fantastic competition prizes in the early days. No luck lately though.

I drop in most days unless I'm out of the country and can't get access to a computer. I never did enjoy controversy very much - was just inclined to state my views and clear off. The virtual parties have been highlights. I particularly remember that first Halloween one on Pendle Hill when certain people got arrested and we met biker's never-to-be-forgotten inflatable friends.

glammanana Sun 30-Mar-14 12:48:34

Marelli its such a shame we have lost some of our Grandads along the way,we had some really good conversations and laughs such a pity we don't hear from them now.

Grandmanorm Sun 30-Mar-14 12:18:56

I read about Gransnet in The Times and joined then. I think it was May 2011. I don't post so often now but do look in most days. I have kept the same name but wish I had chosen a more obscure one.

Oldgreymare Sun 30-Mar-14 12:08:38

I think I started a few months after GN kicked off.
I do remember leaping in with controversial views before 'testing the waters' ( I still hold those views but air them less often smile)
I have kept my name but am more likely to add the following line these days hmm..... 'aint wot she used t'be', for those in any doubt!
Tegan quite right, remember Cheltenham?
I've been to 4 meet-ups AND am still waiting for the 'National' as promised!

Marelli Sun 30-Mar-14 11:13:04

Just had a quick count-up and it seems that there are about 50 posters on this thread that started within the first year or so. smile
Like number, I also shy away from controversy (although I'm not averse to a good argument).

I joined in May 2011, after being told about Gransnet by Marelli, so you have her to blame for being lumbered with me! I look in several times each day, but don`t post too often, and try to avoid controversy. I also don`t post if I`m not very well up on the subject concerned.

yogagran Sat 29-Mar-14 22:24:00

I joined in May 2011 too, prompted by a recommendation from my DD. Still got the same name although I was tempted to change it when another GNetter joined fairly recently with a very similar name. I've thoroughly enjoyed the last few years with you all. I've had wonderful support when I was concerned about some x-ray results and you've often made me laugh, pause to think and also be thankful for all I have
flowers for you all

Lona Sat 29-Mar-14 21:43:33

I joined in the first week and I've name changed twice from NanaChrissy and Ella46.
I look in every day but don't post a lot really.

coastwallker Sat 29-Mar-14 21:22:47

I joined in May 2011 too when my first GS was born. I pop in every day and post sometimes but I find it all goes to fast for me. If I spot a thread that interests me I will read through but some threads have hundreds of posts and time is too short!

joannapiano Sat 29-Mar-14 21:10:46

I've been here since Summer 2011 and post occasionally, usually about books. I have been very fortunate and been sent some really good books from Gransnet, and like to post a review or question.
Now expecting an eighth GC in June.
Regularly mind 3 GC and used to look at MsNet for a bit of advice. Really don't like the unnecessary bad language on their site.

GillieB Sat 29-Mar-14 21:07:29

I joined in May 2011 after reading an article about the launch of GN in "The Telegraph"; at that time I had an GS who had been born in February 2011. Now I also have GD1 who was born in June 2012, GD2 who arrived in May 2013, and GC no. 4 who will be with us at the beginning of August! And that's probably why I don't find time to post much, although I look in most days.
