Who's still here, nearly 3 years on?

I suppose it's inevitable that some of the original Gransnetters will have fallen away, but who is still here, that joined within the first few months? I joined a couple of months in (changing my name once).
I find I don't post as much now, though, and when I think of it, neither do many of the 'originals', though they do pop up sometimes, so they haven't left altogether. Of course, it's very possible that some of the 'originals' have changed their names and are still posting away merrily - though we can't include jingl in this of course wink)!

Me too Marelli - it's like a gransnet code, you have to be around long enough to crack it!

Marelli Mon 31-Mar-14 16:48:55

What?? Ana and gillybob - I don't know what you're talking about? confused Please explain?

janthea Mon 31-Mar-14 16:23:10

I joined May 2011 and am still here! I still have the same name. Am I boring?

Thistledoo Mon 31-Mar-14 09:15:16

I have been around for quite a while too. Not sure when I joined first but it was near the beginning. I have also changed my name once as I let it slip what my name was. I did find out about GN when I was peeping in at Mumsnet. I have enjoyed the friendship, advice, humour, parties plus having someone to chat to, day or night. Long live Gransnetsmile

(((hugs))) sewsilver

Had a shock one day when someone posted as Lizegee, even I got confused as to whom she was!

I couldn't remember when I joined and on looking at my profile am amazed it was 2011 like a lot of others.i look at Gransnet most days even if I don't post a lot. It's been one of the things that has got me through this last dreadful year

gillybob Sun 30-Mar-14 22:41:54

Maybe it's just me Ana I am always a bit slow on the uptake. Although there are some that are very obvious. smile

Soutra Sun 30-Mar-14 22:36:42

Yes, anno, 5 months since we lost greatnan/Carol is right - incisive comments, didn't suffer fools or hypocrites gladly but great sense of humour, also never afraid to say it like it is but a heart of gold when one was in distress or troubled.

Ana Sun 30-Mar-14 22:28:49

Although most usually give enough clues to be identified! wink

gillybob Sun 30-Mar-14 22:16:58

I joined right at the beginning and still have my original name. I must say that I sometimes lose track of who's who when names are changed although I guess that's the whole idea of a name change (for some) isn't it? smile

mrshat Sun 30-Mar-14 21:40:49

I joined in 2011, not sure what month tho' I still catch up 3-4 times a week but don't post very much. Also miss Carol, here and on FB. Life is strange. I also have my original name .................

yogagran Sun 30-Mar-14 21:16:25

I agree with Ariadne Names that are very similar are most confusing, see my post ^^ Saturday @ 22.24. Although yogagran and yogagirl are not nearly as confusing as mollie and mollie65

hummingbird Sun 30-Mar-14 21:03:02

I've been here since the beginning. I've never posted very much, and find it fascinating the way people come and go. I look in every couple of days - it's like catching up with old friends! smile

Ariadne Sun 30-Mar-14 20:58:20

mollie is right, as I have found to my embarrassed cost with her name. Perhaps GNHQ could sort new names more stringently?

Grannylin Sun 30-Mar-14 20:10:42

Have been here a long time too but really should change my name as I'm conscious that I've been 'outed'' in my family and it has put me off posting!
Felt really sad when we lost Carol as I loved reading about her walks and travels and found her quite inspirational.

FlicketyB Sun 30-Mar-14 19:57:02

I joined very early and am still posting regularly under the same name.

Does anyone know what happened to Nelliesmoluski? She lived in Norfolk. I used to enjoy her posts, and we planned to meet up sometime, but sadly it never happened.

mollie Sun 30-Mar-14 19:16:21

Just a thought: I've been here since May 2011 (as I mentioned before) but there is another Mollie (Mollie65) and sometimes we have different views but when replying to the other Mollie people shorten her name to Mollie - you can see the confusion, I hope? Can I just ask people to take care ... I'm not sure there are others with similar screen names with the same problem...

MargaretX Sun 30-Mar-14 19:14:37

I joined in May 11 as well. I changed my name after a year because it was so easily googled, and this name is so overwhelmed by Margaret Thatcher that I am way down on Google's list. We are all on it somewhere.
I sill don't have a profile, as part of me wants to remain private nor am I on FB. My family is not internet orientated.
I like the threads which are more practical like the Sewing Bee or books or health problems.
I read GN most days on my phone and would miss it terribly if it came to an end. Lets hope it keeps on making money with advertising.

Ariadne Sun 30-Mar-14 19:08:45

Carol brought incisiveness and intellect to the forum, and yes, I miss her too. But what a tribute to social media - Facebook, GN and other forums her death brought about!

Ana Sun 30-Mar-14 18:54:30

Not forgetting whatsamashedup something or other, which she was at the time I joined!

JessM Sun 30-Mar-14 18:49:31

It was impressive though, the way people pulled together when carol was missing.
I joined in May 2011. Still check in at least a couple of times a day, but have it firmly logged off during working hours. But limit the number of threads I look at. GN got me through some lonely times.
The grandad thing has not been a roaring success has it. Some strange characters have come and gone. My DH says "why on earth would a man want to join a forum called Gransnet?" hmm
I used to enjoy talking to popparob from Melbourne Australia, who somehow seemed to fit in as an ordinary member.
silverfish - just to fill you in jingle... has had far more name changes than any of us can remember. The first was possibly jangle but the rest have been variants on the theme.

annodomini Sun 30-Mar-14 18:26:46

Not quite six months, though. Carol went missing at the end of October on the weekend the clocks changed. GMT lasts from the end of October to the end of March. Nevertheless, I have difficulty in believing that Carol has been gone so long. I feel her very much with me and I had planned to visit her in May. I so enjoyed being in 'her' Alps with her.
