Look Galen!

I have total use of legs and arms, but when I bought a bargain set of plastic storage boxes from Poundstretcher and had to get the home via bus and Shanks's Pony, it would have been quite useful to upend them over my head and steady them with one hand while using the other to carry the bag of other stuff.

Unfortunately, the weather was beautiful and sunny.

Women in African villages carry full containers on their heads. They would wonder what the * we are objecting to.

Anyway, it was a really good tip! Excellent!

How did the choc-o-Guiness cake turn out then, Jingle?

Far too delicious Dragonfly!!! My house still smelt of chocolate cake when I got out of bed at 7.30, and it called to me.

Maybe I'll have a go. Can you taste the Guiness in it? Seems a weird combination really.

As feetle says, there's no hint of malice in the picture - and the 'visually impaired' chap walking behind the lady on the scooter perhaps didn't want to carry it (he may have been with her) as he needed to be aware of his immediate surroundings - and carrying a washing basket might have been difficult! Anyway - I'll bet Galen liked feetle's reference to her pearls - clutched or not!

I can't imagine Galen taking this badly, I can see her in my mind's eye having a jolly good chuckle. I think she is the last person to take offence about anything so innocent from any of us let along from jingle who she knows far too well!

The sugar totally overwhelms the guinness Dragonfly. It's just a dark, sweet, chocolatey taste. It has a slightly squidgy inside and a lovely crispy top.

To be honest, I think you could get away with less sugar. If you really wanted to.

I don't think Galen's comment about mocking the afflicted indicates that she is happy about this post at all (she does not seem to be around this morning - but I can understand why she might not want to be.)
I think that this photograph highlights the difficulty people have in living independently and shopping for unwieldy items when they have mobility issues. How do you carry anything more that a loaf of bread in those scooters?
How do you cope when you are unable to carry an umbrella?
I once had a little laugh when I saw a chap with a scooter run out of battery power near the top of a very steep hill - and push the scooter up the last 20 metres. But no way would I have felt it appropriate to video him and post it on the Internet, let along aim it at someone I knew to have a scooter (and wear pearls).

I'm pretty sure that Jingle didn't mean to hurt anyone by the post. At the same time [and this is my personal opinion] if you do feel that you 'might' have upset someone by a comment on here it's not a bad idea to hold up your hands and say 'I didn't mean to cause offence but, if I did I'm sorry'. A comment on the internet can feel quite cutting when you're sitting at home reading it .

They usually have large baskets on the front.

Perhaps this particular idea could be adapted by some clever inventer into something quite sensible.

Well I really should not say this, but no one could see who she is with that laundry basket on her head. #ducksforcover.

The issue I see is putting the basket on the head so she can carry it. Not that it's a someone on a mobility scooter. It's a matter of ones perspective.

I have a photo of the bad spelling of a poster with the words "Clearence sale" in a shop window. would putting that on line be regarded as insulting the literacy of the shop assistants and the printers that produced it?

I'm not offended at all, it's the sort of thing I would do. When younger I used to carry the laundry on a bundle on my head down to the laundrette.

jingle knows me quite well.
I try to make light of my problems, literally as when on one Xmas cruise I draped red and green fairy lights on the correct (port and starboard) sides of my scooter.

If it had not been targeted directly at me, some people would might have been upset. But it was and I'm not upset. Anyway how else would you carry it on a scooter
The basket on my scooter is so small it won't even hold my weeks supply of vodka. How useful is that.
I will now go and put my pearls on so that I can clutch them.

And those of you who want to know how I cope on cruises. Silver travel adviser have recorded a short interview with me to be broadcast on ageuk wireless at 6pm on Friday. ( short plug)

Btw, my scooter is blue! Wouldn't be seen dead on a red one. And definitely would NOT wear purple with a red scooter

This made my smile because I was recalling a funny memory in my past, I was using a wheel chair for over a year in the 80s we had been shopping and bought a washing up bowl, it started to rain so I put the bowl on my head which made us laugh

Am I being thick - don't answer that ? But what is this thread all about ? I do not know what HTH means - I am clueless in the Thames Valley!

Galen could you not somehow attach a trailer to your scooter to carry your vodka home?

A mobility scooter or an electric wheelchair should be seen as a positive sign of someone trying to maintain their independence and not giving into the restrictions caused by their disability.

If there is one expression I detest its "being confined to a wheelchair". Using a wheelchair or scooter has to be a liberation to someone who would not otherwise get out of the house, it's a solution not a restriction.

Nelliem couldn't agree more. At the archery club I belong to there is one man in a wheelchair. He is much more mobile than I am on my crutches. At the tribunal the two wheelchair using doctors can get around Minch easier than I can. I only use the scooter for distances of over about 40-50 yards. In a race to the only disabled loo, they win leaving me cross legged.[
