Amusing, made me smile.

I loved listening to The Navy Lark and Round The Horn with my darling father last year, lovely memories of our time together both as a child and in our 'older years'. I can see him now having a wry smile, the difference being when I was younger I would laugh because he did but I didn't have a clue what I was laughing at.

You can still hear it on Radio 4 Extra.

All this stuff has just brought back fond memories of the "The Navy Lark" "Erm left hand down a bit."

Thanks Jingle, why would I want to tell you off, I think its the sort of thing I might do myself. after all, necessity is the mother of invention. (Or any port in a storm)

that's a good help. Phoenix. DH always says same amount of letters in port as left, and fewer letters in red than green. By the time I have sorted that out in my head we have usually gone the wrong way.

Galen You will know whether it is true that port and starboard are named that because the boat/ship was moored with the left side against the port, and the right side open to the starlight? (Think driving car along on the left of the road, and parking facing that way.)

She needed my shoes that used to use for sailing they had a green triangle on the right one and a red one on the left. They're made in Ireland!

rosequartz I have not got a clue about port and starboard. Left and right are fine to me. I have a friend who gets mixed up with left and right so port and starboard would finish her off.

Galen, that is a brilliant idea about the red and green lights, I may find some to attach to DH. Having been in the Navy, he has a real problem with 'left' and 'right' and tried to teach me port and starboard. If I'm driving and he is navigating we have often gone the wrong way, whereupon he will shout 'other left'!

Please where is the picture, I want to know if it is funny/not funny so I can see what it is all about. I don't walk very well any longer and am resisting getting anything more 'walking aid' than a sturdy shopping trolley. I really envy those older than I am who seem to walk perfectly well. When I think of all the keep-fit classes I went to as well! Sorry it is a bit off the subject.

A very good friend of mine and fellow tribunal member has no arms. When being frisked at one of our courts by over zealous security guards he remarked ' it's ok! I'm 'armless!'
