I agree Joanna, Pharrell Williams 'Happy' is a real toe tapper, next time I am with my 3 year old grandson I will play it to him and he will say 'come on Nan let's dance'.

Finally 'Honky Tonk train blues' by Mead Luxe Lewis, I should think it is over 80 years old and is fabulous still.

I've realised that most of my Glenn Gould is on vinyl and I've got nothing to play them on! Must get DH to find some to download. I don't think anyone plays the piano like him feetle you can hear each note carefully placed. Beethoven's Ninth is always good for giving you a lift and with spring in the air I think The Beatles Good Day Sunshine is a good choice.

If you go onto Youtube Music Deedaa and type in Glen Gould you should get his music come up and you can listen there and then. I listen to so many people from the past this way and it is totally free.

Jingle I agree - a good wallow in something sad and sentimental, which matches your mood at the time can been cathartic.

Otherwise, I am an old rocker so anything upbeat from that era has me dancing. If however I have a pile of ironing to do, nothing gets me through it quicker than some Scottish Country Dance music.

I had forgotten some of these great happy summery toe-tappers, In The Summertime [Mungo Jerry]is just great dustyangel I love it, also Lazing On a Summer's Afternoon [Kinks] which I haven't heard in ages.Never heard of Pharrell Williams [will look that up] but I also love Higher and Higher [Jackie Wilson] reminds me of Ghostbusters 2!I like all kinds of music, but anything that gets me prancing about the house has to be good[although you wouldn't want to see it ]

I listen to Glen Gould on youtube too, feetleb. I can play the aria of Goldberg, nice and slow, but how he remembers all those variations, incredible.
Jingle - my current favourite "sad " piece is the opening movement of Bach's St. John's Passion. Preferably with boys singing the high parts.

I have some George Harrison cds too and really like them, ditto The Travelling Wilburys. One to really dance to is 'Got My Mind Set On You.' Yes, you can't be sad listening to ELO can you, especially Mr Blue Sky.
I sometimes play Fats Domino cds, I love Blueberry Hill, his Southern drawl is full of sunshine[in fact the voice is so lazy that it barely comes out.]'Though we're apart' comes over as 'Tho we aport'. Cool. Mellow!I also love Gene Pitney songs and Roy Orbison, and will always stop to listen to those. Blue Bayou, Pretty Woman, 24 hours to Tulsa etc.

Anything by the Beatles, but particularly the later George Harrison ones.
I like the Travelling Wilburys too, and the Moody Blues, particularly I know you're out there Somewhere, Forever Autumn, Driftwood and Go Now. The Animals, Don't Let me be Misunderstood, and It's my Life.
The Rhythm Kings is like the Travelling Wilburys, a band made up of really good musicians that you'd pay to go and see individually but are so much better all together.

I like it, Suzanne, and I'm a Moody Blues fan.
My elder son is a head of music. He has a degree in Jazz, and plays the saxophone in a band. His main instrument was the clarinet when he took his grades as the sax wasn't a recognised instrument then. He works in a catholic school, so I listen to all musical genres. He also has his dad's guitar which is well over 50 years old. My other son plays piano and guitar, so we've always had lots of music around. Two granddaughters play piano and violin.

I used to go to the South bank or RAH on paydays depending what they had on and going to see the John Lord tribute at the RAH in april, Hubby is a Deep Purple nut...so Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath get airing here too. like the Old Jazz stuff but not sure who I am listening too.....will listen to most things as long as it has a decent melody and rhythm..
