'I haven't got time'

A few years ago a friend and his much younger wife called to see us on a Sunday. I was reading the paper. She said "I don't read the papers, I have a life". I was so stunned at her rudeness I couldn't think of a comeback!

Galen, do fish out your recorders. There's nothing like making music with other people together be it choir, orchestra, recorder group, operatic society, jazz band.........

I do not "do much" because "I am not interested" or CBA.
I have very little time for things because I do too many things! Housework being lowest on my priorities. I did have a bit of a cleaning blitz on Sunday.

On Monday I drove the 100mile round trip to visit and this time "day care" DGS. I called in at choir number one my way home. It's a lovely drive through glorious countryside so its not just a chore, but it takes about 1hr 40mins each way whichever route I take.

Today I looked at yesterdays photos, did some U3A"Homework" Listened to the rehearsal file for tonight's other choir practice.

Tomorrow I have knitting club at lunch time and I am out in the evening with former colleagues.

Thursday I am out at U3A pm and a Geology group AGM and lecture in the evening . Friday I usually do my shopping.

There is something choir based on local WW1 commemorations history project stuff on Friday I said I would go to. I will see how I feel about that then.
So little time so little energy.

I once told students at school that 'I couldn't be asked' (had tried 3 different tape recorders and neither worked, so decided to change acitivity)

'Mrs X, you can't say that, it's so rude' - when I genuinely looked innocent and wrote it on the board. they had a good laugh and said 'oh no, it is not how it is said or written' When I asked, the replied 'ask your daughters Mrs X, they will explain' and they did 0)

If I haven't got time, it's probably because I spend so much time browsing Gransnet.

Must say this thread made me get up start something.Ive crocheted one stripy legging. Suppose I'll have to do another one now!

There is no such thing as time, only priorities.

It's not about "making time" it's about TAKING the time to do the things that matter.

"I haven't got time to read" is the one that still gets me - implying (as I hear it) that there are far more important things to do, and I'm not doing them, so I'm lazy. Just means that they can't be bothered, as the rest of you so rightly say. Or, maybe, just don't want to.

(My counsellor hat tells me to ask why I let them make me feel this way, but I haven't got time to think about that..)

I always think 'sorry I haven't been in touch but I've been busy' really means 'sorry I haven't been in touch but you never entered my head'. Cynical? Moi?

I have a lot of 'can't be bothered' moments.

However when the jobs stack up I choose one and give myself a time limit to complete it eg 'ironing' one hour. Usually I have finished the job quicker than I expected and wonder why I had procrastinated so long, then I go back to what I really want to do.

I am sitting here at my desk supposed to be working, not reading all the posts on Gransnet, but do you know what............... although I have loads to do I can't be bothered!!!

I woke up late this morning and 'couldn't be bothered' to get up, so I finally surfaced at 9.30. I then pottered about, half an hour on the iPad, shuffled a few papers about which should be filed, but couldn't be bothered, then walked through the village to meet a friend for lunch, to find I was an hour out, so walked home and will set off again in 40 minutes. You know what, I really don't have time for all this

Me too! I get the occasional email from a niece and she always starts 'so sorry not to be in touch sooner but I've been so busy...' and then she lists all the things she and the family HAVE to do... nothing unusual (unless you count getting up at 5.30am to go for a run, I've never done that) and all stuff that we've all done but there seems to be some kudos for appearing to be run off your feet these days! It really irritates me. If you like being on the go all the time that's fine but don't moan about it!

I bought weekend newspapers from the local little Tesco not so long ago and the irritating female behind the counter said 'I never have time to read a paper, I've got too much to do' ... I won't tell you what I said but she steers clear of me now!

As at the moment I have no work (courtesy of ATOS' incompetence ) I am actually enjoying just sitting with iPad when I know I should be
1 crocheting leg warmers for DGD
2 tuning and learning to play my harp
3 cutting out and making another doorstop (made one yesterday. Took me half an hour relearning how to use my sewing machine)
4 finding my recorders and start learning to play them again.
5 at last watch the DVDs I bought a couple of years ago. The kings speech and Hotel Marigold.

But do you know what?
I can't be bothered.

How true! It's really more of a case of 'I am not interested in that' or I really can't be bothered to do that' than a case of no time. We can all find time to do the things we really want to do.Once you are retired you can't kid yourself any more that 'if only you had time you would make bread/ home made jam/knit/ take up painting/write a book 'etc because you then discover that you know what? You really don't want to after all.
