Things I like about Gransnet

One word - support

I was feeling quite in the doldrums due to numerous reasons with which I will not bore you, when I discovered Gransnet, but am so glad I did. You have made a world of difference to my life. I love to read what you are up to, share your joys and sorrows. Some of you have such a sense of humour and I actually laugh out loud at your witty comments. I've also had a lot of useful advice from you on various subjects.

Living abroad, I do feel homesick for the UK at times so its lovely to have a connection with those of you who are there.

Most of all, being a long-distance nana myself, it has been a great support to share the experiences of others in a similar situation.

I joined at the beginning, much to the amusement of the late Mr.G but it has been a lifesaver and I think he would think differently now.

I relish the intelligent and informative posts by those who are knowledgeable about particular topics – bags with maths, Granny23 with Scottish politics (and proposed independence), Jess about biology and microbiology, a whole bunch of people with experience of teaching and running schools and another whole bunch with experience of social work and probation … and many, many more.

It's a diversion mostly. Quite pleasant when taking a break from the housework, or watching tv. Can't say I feel at all sentimental about it.

I LIKE most of the above but curiously what I absolutely LOVE is having the opportunity to share the JOY, whether that be a new Grandchild, (particularly if there is a picture), a recovery from illness, a surprise present or party, an enjoyable holiday or experience, a picture of a sunset or the first spring flowers. When there is nothing particular to brighten my own day, I can come on to GN and find so much to be happy and hopeful about. I think of GN as a sisterhood, where we might sometimes quarrel but then make up, where we stick together if anyone threatens one of us and where we share Joys and Sorrows.

I think sometimes people are reluctant to tell us their good news in case it is seen as being boastful or inappropriate when someone else is suffering. Please do not hang back, share the JOY and spread the happiness

Absent I haven't told anyone my name, other than one friend who showed absolutely no interest in joining.

I don't mention that I have joined Gransnet to anyone else in the family as I expect I could get a mixed response.

I suppose it could be worse I could be on a speed dating site for past it pensioners !

I like the mindless distraction of the light hearted threads, and the mindful-Ness of the serious discussions. And I love the virtual friendship, and friends I have on here. And all the kindness that pours on to these pages.

It's always good to know that others are in the 'same boat' when we have problems, because we sometimes think it's just ourselves being peculiar, when in fact it's not[or is that just me?] My paranoia is kicking in again.
Also sometimes we just need a bit of a rant [ a safe rant] or just a few tips on how to make something or where to buy something.Also to see other thoughts on a subject, it may make us change our minds [or not] but we are all allowed to have our opinions.Plus we can meet each other as well [in real life I mean] now and again for a chat, it doesn't have to be all virtual and faceless.We can cheer each other up in adversity.

Love the support and the real empathy given to people who seek help.
Love knowing that there are other grans out there in the middle of the night
Love knowing I'm not alone.
Love the vicarious living I do with you all.
Love the silly chat.
