Kate and William holiday for two !

We did this when our DD was 18 months old. We went to Spain for a holiday and left her with my mum. I have never regretted anything so much in my life. I still feel guilty to this day and it was over 40 years ago. My feeble excuse - I was only 20, had never been abroad. My mum said DD fretted most of the time. It was selfish and unfair on my DD and my mum.

So two rich, spoiled, indulged young people are going on holiday without their child? He'll have to get used to it when he's sent off to prep and public school, because that's what these people do, isn't it? Hence the perpetuation of a powerful elite in this country, from what, in the real world, would be called dysfunctional families.

I don't see it's any of our business. We've said time and time again on GN that our own GC belong to their parents, first and foremost, and it's not up to us to interfere in their way of doing things. So why should we criticise someone else?

Loads of well off (and not so well off) couples go on holiday and leave their kids with parents or nannies. What's the big deal?

Just for the record the Cambridges will be visiting New Zealand as well as Oz during their gruelling 18-day tour. However, I doubt if they will have to watch prancing Maoris as well aborigines and the like – not sure who the "like" are – as the Maori King Tuheitia has turned down the 90-minute slot allocated to him. Wise man, in my opinion.

Surely that is one of the things being "royal" is , except for the freeloaders,
two of the queen"s sons spring to mind !!

I think 'prancing' sounds s bit derogatory. Why couldn't you just have said 'dancing'? That's what it is, after all.

There is no doubt that I could not have even countenanced leaving any one of my children to go on holiday without them. Certainly not when they were so tiny. Most of mine were still getting breast milk at that age. But I guess that others look at it differently. Kate may find it harder than she thinks once she gets there.

Dancing/prancing. Whatever you call it, I'm sure it will be delightful.

Absent , King Tuheitia is absolutely right not to "meet" these two over privileged nobodies. Was he supposed to feel honored by them ? They are on a "much needed holiday" after all.

Hope the "foreign" nanny is working hard to help grandma Carole.

The Queen regards it her duty to meet boring, puffed up visitors and probably doesn't feel in the least bit honoured. She knows what's expected of her.

You might not like them, gillybob but calling them nobodies is a bit daft.

Went on a diving trip to America when DCS were 2 and 8 months . One stayed with each set of grandparents and they all had a great time. I have cared for DGC many times to allow the parents a weekend away and time to recharge their batteries. Don't see the problem myself if they are cared for by close family but we have also travelled with all of them from a very early age. Enduring memory of arriving in Greece with 6 month old DS. The pre -booked cot was not there and hotel could not get one until the following day. DS slept in an empty suitcase padded out with towels

Having been, for a very short time, (and mostly vicariously) hounded by the press I can tell you for a fact that it is one of the most awful experiences of my life. If I had to put up with it as the royals do I fear I would be seriously unhinged. To go on a royal tour is to have every word and every action examined and reported on - there is not enough money, status or prestige in the world that could make up to me for such a complete lack of privacy.
As for leaving the baby with the grandparents for a short time, why ever not?

How lovely to see all the voices of reason here. If William and Kate had taken the baby with them the anti Royalists would still have found a reason to squawk in horror. As has been said before, what's the problem? They get a break and Granny and Grandad get time with their precious GS.

Why would anyone squawk in horror if a young couple took their baby on holiday with them Ceesnan? It seems the most natural thing in the world to me.
