Just seen in the paper that Susannah Reid (currently on tour with strictly)has announced her separation from her husband. This may explain why GrandmaMinny has been absent from the forum. So sad for all concerned but happens all too often when one spouse's career takes off in a new direction. sad

When, we all received lovely pms from Grandmaminey grin

Ana Sat 01-Mar-14 20:32:05

Merlot! grin

whenim64 Sat 01-Mar-14 21:17:36

Well, that's even better, merlot smile

Penstemmon Sat 01-Mar-14 21:57:28

I did not notice any posts from Susannah Reid's mum on here so cannot comment. If i am honest i am not sure what Susannah Reid does as i do nt watch much TV. However it sounds to me as if some posters are almost pleased that a relationship has broken up. A mum posted on here highlighting her daughters TV appearance and asking for GNers to think about voting for her. Some now feel they were being manipulated!

It is sad and painful when a relationship fails . It is made more painful when carried out in the public arena. I think it must be even more painful when all and sundry think they can comment too!

merlotgran Sat 01-Mar-14 22:05:01

Of course we can comment, Penstemmon. This has all happened in the public domain.

Nobody forced Susanna Reid to go on Strictly which happened to be a BBC production for which we pay.

I had thought that Susannah wasn't looking particularly happy this week, presumably this is why.

I did not receive any pms from GrannyMiney could be because I said I did not watch Stricktly,

Flowerofthewest Sun 02-Mar-14 00:58:13

Who is Susanna Reid? What does she do? and is Grandmaminey a minny, miley or a miney? not that it matters really it was a bit like Chinese Whispers on the first page smile I hope that all is well with her grandchildren though!

I didn't receive a PM either newist and I don't watch strictly either. I did used to enjoy the American version though. A couple of the men had rather nice bottoms grin

MrsSB Sun 02-Mar-14 11:36:37

I watched, and voted for, Strictly. I did not receive any PMs from GrandmaMiney, nor would I have expected to. I did not feel manipulated. I am adult enough to make up my own mind about who, if anyone, should get my vote.

I do feel sad for Susanna's children, but feel that her personal relationships, though played out in public, are actually none of my business. The only aspect of her life, and the lives of other celebrities, that should be of interest to us are those aspects where they are carrying out their jobs. Their private and personal lives should remain just that, private and personal.

Where did we leave the halo emoticon?

Tegan Sun 02-Mar-14 11:50:53

Can I just say that I made the comments because I felt that I'd been very naive at the time and suddenly felt a bit silly. In no way would I ever gloat over the breakdown of a relationship [been there; know what it's like]. But I had been unfair to Jingle at the time and wanted to set the record straight. I feel that I can comment on it purely because Gransnet were involved at the time and needed to say what my personal feelings were [something I'd been feeling for a while but under different circumstances would have just kept to myself].

I am very sorry for Susanna's children, as I would be for any children in the same position. I did feel that the Strictly thread became a bit one dimensional and I certainly didn't feel I was able to express myself honestly - apart from 'liking' Big Ben!! blush In other years there had been a fair bit of lighthearted banter which was missing in the last series.

annodomini Sun 02-Mar-14 12:19:35

I don't think Susanna's mum pm'd members unless they had pm'd her.

Oldgreymare Sun 02-Mar-14 13:06:37

Perhaps GM is just too busy picking up the pieces, caring for her DGC, etc etc to post......this (situation) may have been going on for some time!

Granny23 Sun 02-Mar-14 13:46:15

I am now very sorry I started this thread, which I did without thinking anything other than to offer an explanation as to why Grandmaminey might have withdrawn from Gransnet. My heart goes out to a fellow Granny whose obvious pride [in the best sense] and joy in her family must now be in tatters. sad

merlotgran Sun 02-Mar-14 13:56:08

Sorry to contradict you, anno, but I did NOT pm grandmaminey prior to receiving a pm from her, not that it matters a jot. My remark about us all receiving pms was made in jest, hence the grin emoticon.

Gally Sun 02-Mar-14 14:08:37

Perhaps this thread could be closed now. I wouldn't want my daughter's problems aired in public, even if she were a 'celeb' who lived in the public domain. If not for Susannah or her mother, at least for her childrens' sake?

Granny23 Sun 02-Mar-14 14:18:38

Yes Please, Gally

merlotgran Sun 02-Mar-14 14:31:23

But before you close the thread, please make sure those high horses get a good rub down after their gallop.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 02-Mar-14 18:52:58

merlot grin

I hate it when posters put lines on threads.

Ana Sun 02-Mar-14 19:00:13

It's rather presumptuous, isn't it? hmm

Granny23 Mon 03-Mar-14 12:33:12

I don't think it is presumptuous. I (stupidly) started it and thought it was best to finish it.

merlotgran Mon 03-Mar-14 12:44:52

Are threads owned by the person who starts them?

I thought only GNHQ could finish a thread by deleting it.

Why was it stupid to start the thread, Granny23?

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Mar-14 12:53:06

I can see very well why you wish you hadn' t started it granny23.

Tegan Mon 03-Mar-14 12:53:55

She meant the thread to be a compassionate one. I should really have kept my opinion to myself [because I do feel so sorry for the children]. I think we all agree that what's happened is very sad for everyone concerned.
