No; I'm thinking of Davina [is she on Ch5 still?] and Christine Bleakley. John Bishop and DW don't need publicity; neither did Eddie Izzard. What next; Kerry Katona climbing Mt Everest; Chantelle trecking to the South Pole; I was going to say something about Jordan but thought better of it . Actually Davina seems like quite an amazing person [she was good on the family tree programme].

Whose career do you think is in a downward spiral Tegan? Not David Walliams' that's for sure. He must be making a fortune with his children's books.

I do question why these celebrities do these things. When they are very much in the public eye [John Bishop/David Walliams] I don't question their motive but when their career is in a downward spiral I do [I'm so cynical these days ]. I suppose it's either great sporting achievements, going in the Big Brother house or the jungle.

Christine Bleakley water ski-ed across the channel and fell off so many times I couldn't see the point.

David Walliams got ill from swimming or swallowing the Thames water. Is it worth it - I will give a fiver NOT to have to climb up a high rock.

In 2009 Eddie Izzard ran 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief. Then of course there was the lovely John Bishop [swoon].

Yes. Perhaps a bit of excitement would be good. If she was swimming the Thames like David Walliams did I could go and cheer her on. (sigh)

I don't think it matters where on earth she climbs a rock, people will still give. Flying a load of BBC employees to Utah seems totally unnecessary and extravagant. I just hope she manages it and it doesn't all end in tears, but I suppose that would make good television viewing for some people who need to inject a little excitement into their lives

Oh I love buying cakes from village/ church fetes! Always taste better if you haven't had to make it yourself.

DD' s church fete makes a very good profit. mostly from me buying up the cakes and jams

Tegan, I think you were meant to be buying the cakes someone else baked ( or perhaps you don't like cake!).
Anyway those who love baking enjoy making them and those who like eating them but can't be bothered to bake can get together on the cake stall to raise money. All in a good cause. Any excuse for cake.

What exactly would you like licence posters' money USD for? Some dull old documentaries about dinosaurs? Some arty-fatty choral singing.

Yeah. That would help the kids in the third world would n't it?!

The Utah thing will make a much more interesting programme than some rock in Scotland. And it will attract many more viewers/donations. the travel and training will come out licence money, and that's what it's for - to make programmes.

Why is there always someone on here ready to knock other people's efforts! It would be a dull old world for the rest of us if some of you were running things.

Perhaps an unfortunate name given to the programme? Self fulfilling prophecy territory. Gally; I tend to think the same way about village fetes etc when people sell cakes and suchlike for just about the amount they cost to make [or probably less given the energy used]. But maybe that's because I'm a rotten cook and don't understand the pleasure involved in the cooking process. I did get a bit annoyed years ago when a boy won the 'best cake' competition at my daughters school and it turned out his mum had baked it [she just happened to be a domestic science teacher]. My daughter and I [she was in his class] looked on it as a 'lesson in life' .

I see that Alex from The One Show is going to climb some horrendously steep 'peak' in Utah in aid of Sports Relief despite the fact that she has never climbed more than a flight of stairs without puffing. Now, tell me if I am wrong, but I feel that the expense of training her and flying her out to the States, the insurance, the film crew, the accommodation, the razzamatazz, etc. etc.. could have well been put to better use? She could easily have climbed a (safer) rock much nearer to home in Scotland, England, Wales or even France, which wouldn't have involved sleeping on a tiny platform jutting out into nothingness with her 'trainer' for 2 nights (porta potties will be used ) and would probably raise just as much money. Or am I just an old curmudgeounly spoil sport?

It was called 'Off The Beaten Track', Tegan. I'm not a Christine Bleakley fan so I didn't watch it.

Didn't know she'd made a programme about the countryside? Viewers aren't that daft; you have to have a passion [or at least an interest in a subject to present a programme about it]. I think one of her problems was that the Beeb replaced her with a lookalike [at least I think they look similar] so they sort of morphed into one person]. Also to present Morning TV I think viewers have to have a feeling of 'knowing' that presenter ie being comfortable having them on screen when they're buzzing around doing different things and they do feel they deserve some sort of loyalty. I've never liked Adrian Childs [sp] ever since he 'defected'; not because of disloyalty on his part but because he idn't fit in with the role he was playing [bit like casting an actor/actress for the wrong role].
