Scotland forever!

I reckon Spain would veto - the Basques have wanted independence for decades - they have their own language and they are a wealthy region with lots of industry and fantastic road and rail links to France. Then Catalans also have their own language and are, I believe the second most wealthy region and many too would like independence. Then there is Galicia (another language...) If you drive around the rest of Spain you see graffiti - every blooming region has got its own agenda about wanting to split from Spain, split in half etc. Combine that with a desperate economy with huge unemployment in many regions. The Spanish might like their calamari but they are not going to risk their most affluent regions leaving the poorer regions in the lurch.

Wonder how many medals in the Winter Olympics and the 2012 London Games Team GB would have won without the Scottish sportspeople?

Scots won 12 at the 2012 Games, Aka, the same as people from Yorkshire. Team GB won 65 altogether.

At Sochi, the 2 individual medals were won by Englishwomen, the 2 team medals for curling by Scots, I assume.

Spain will not vote to allow Scotland as a 'break away' country to be admitted as a new member of the EEC because it will cause a precedent that will cause them problems, namely the basque regions (Catalonia?) who have long campaigned, sometimes very violently, for separate entity.

Whitewave Spain will not exercise their veto as they would lose their access to their principal fishing grounds, which are in Scottish waters. Spanish Government has made this promise to Spanish Fishing Industry.

Kofi21 undoubtedly - but Scotland's problem is Spain and perhaps France, it only takes one to veto and that's it. Spain is very likely to veto Scotland's request because it is not in her interest to do otherwise.

I am not from Scotland and have only visited Edinburgh to visit friends (they are yes voters I believe) I only want Scotland to become independent if the have to take Michael Gove back

I do not like to be asked what I would vote, all elections should be private and it worries me that there may be a backlash however the vote goes towards people who openly stated their preference.
I am from Edinburgh and have been asked a few times since moving here if I support Hearts or Hibs football teams, other Scots will understand the nature of the question, I just say I am a Rugby fan.

I live in deepest Scotland and have done for the past 45 years, very proud to say I come from Scotland. BUT I am British, my mother was English father Welsh and most of my many relatives live south if the border. I cannot bear the nationalism that is being created in Scotland in the name of independence, its causing bad feeling and creating two camps, the yes vote, very vocal, the no vote very quiet.
I will be voting NO.

EU membership is open to any recognized European democracy that meets the Copenhagen criteria and adopts the acquis communautaire. Scotland has been within the EU/ EC for over forty years and does meet these criteria.

I read today that the lucky buggers Scots won't be able to enter the Eurovision Song Contest if they get the Yes vote.

Thought some of you might fine this funny,,,,,, a friend was watching the Scotland 6 Nations match today with friends in a pub here, when Scotland won, just, one of the Englishmen in the group pointed out quite pompously, we get a lot of pompousity here,,,, that did the Scots realise they would not qualify for the 6 Nations if they voted yes, after a short silence everyone else started laughing and passed the comment around, when he asked what was funny, it was pointed out to him, loudly that it was THE 6 NATIONS, or had France and Italy suddenly become part of the UK.
This is just the type of ignorant comment that makes No voters like me think again.
Then again the way Scotland play at times,,,,aaarrgghh.
