Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

That's lactuca sativa, not satiava... still no EDIT KEY!

AlieOxon Wed 19-Feb-14 14:02:09

Think that means 'common' ?

AlieOxon Wed 19-Feb-14 14:04:52

I use Kalms, and paracetamol and a very little temazepam - the last very useful but I dare not take much because a) addictive and b) I won't get any more if doctor thinks I'm hooked..............

What I do is meditate..it does not have to be too involved..just think of nothing other than the sound of your own heart beat.

Meditation is amazing and helps in all sorts of stressful situations.

Alie I think sativa in a plant name means it is (or was) cultivated for its usefulness.

"Vulgaris" means common (in the sense that there is a lot of it about, not that it is vulgar/rude)

Some real food for thought (and sleep mehopes!) here. I've never heard of the lettuce sandwich remedy, though as can't stand the stuff I will give it a miss. I'd be interested to hear, if anyone else gives it a whirl, how they get on - though I don't think it's a good time of year to be gathering lettuce from the garden in the evening? I wish I could meditate cathybee, I really have tried but thoughts won't be banished from my head, I'm too introverted to be able to empty my mindsad

Garden? Evening?

Nah... Tesco, midday. But only if there's a full moon hmm

boheminan Wed 19-Feb-14 17:47:26

grin Aka

It's me again! Maybe I should have tried the lettuce sandwich or banana, but didn't have either! Anyway, we need to get up soon to be at the airport in time for our early flight to London and then a connecting flight to the States where DD2, SiL and DGD will be waiting for us. It's going to be a long day but worth it to be with them again smile

Granny23 Thu 20-Feb-14 04:01:32

Bon voyage Bellasnana Hope you get some sleep on the plane smile

Bellasnana Thu 20-Feb-14 04:18:00

Thanks Granny23 - I'm not usually very good at sleeping on planes but will certainly try! Hope you get to sleep too - these wakeful nights can wear you down after a while. moon

Good morning World….I've woken up a bit later this morning (6.15am) anyone else up and about?

Granny23 Fri 21-Feb-14 06:41:51

Good Morning Bohemian - I am up and about, well sort of. Had a couple of hours sleep and hope to have some more shortly. I am really exasperated with this inability to stay asleep during the night and have a Doctor's appointment next Monday to see if she has anything new to offer.

whenim64 Fri 21-Feb-14 06:48:13

Same here Granny23. It's frustrating to be wide awake at 5.30 and unable to get a couple more hours, but I can bet I'll be falling asleep after lunch later on.

MiceElf Fri 21-Feb-14 06:57:37

I'm always awake at the crack of dawn while HymnsElf is sleeping peacefully next to me. I could get up and be busy, but that would disturb him and so would switching on the light and reading. And anyway, he always brings me a cup of tea at 6.10 and I'd hate to deprive him of that pleasure.

boheminan Fri 21-Feb-14 07:19:12

Hmmmphangry. It's now nearly 7.30am - 'time to get up'?

Nelliemoser Fri 21-Feb-14 07:56:09

Good Morning I woke early.
Late last night on FB Sil posted they were at the Children's Hospital with DGS who had a temp pf 40deg C. He and Sil had been poorly the day before. DGS was diagnosed with an ear infection but he got very upset when being examined and ended up with a toddler melt down. They were told to sit with him in the quiet room to calm him down before they would let him home as his heart rate was so fast.

So this Gran has woken early wondering how he is. I will find out in due course. I hope they are all sleeping now. If sensible with DGS in bed with them.

Lona Fri 21-Feb-14 07:59:51

Hope he's ok Nellie

Bellasnana Fri 21-Feb-14 08:12:06

Hello ladies. It is 3am here in Florida and I am awake despite being exhausted from yesterday's long journey. My suitcase did not arrive with me so I have no clothes or anything else. Very inconvenient. DGD was very excited to see us and wants Nana to do everything for her. She is so sweet I am already dreading leaving her again. She seems so different, even though we Skype daily.

Nellie so sorry to hear about your DGS - do hope he calmed down and will soon be on the mend. Such a worry for you and his parents.

Nelliemoser Fri 21-Feb-14 10:55:34

Re the poorly Grandson.
I have just caught up with DD. Not hearing anything was getting me worried.
The little fellow is "being brave" and pottering about playing, but is obviously not himself. He's a bit whiny and needing lots of cuddles. DD tried to get him to sleep in his cot when they got home well after 2pm. Then realised it was so much easier to just tuck him up in bed between them.

Now we Grans could have told them that to start with.

Galen Fri 21-Feb-14 11:55:01

How old is he?

I'm going to give it a go for a second attempt to get some sleephmm. I tried to trick myself by going up earlier - and lay awake reading for three hours (probably not too cunning a plan to read a murder-mystery) now am soooo tired, and am going to resort to another couple of valerian tablets. Anyone else still awake?
