Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?
bohe I remember us meeting on a non-sleep thread before, but forgot it was this one!
MiniMouse This is the original thread I started a couple of years ago (under a different guise!). It's waxed and waned since then, but I hope The Insomniac Club and GN'rs abroad can gather here in the wee small hours again. I'm out tonight, so will probably be dropping in here later
I wonder if HQ could set up a permanent thread for insomniacs/those abroad? I've often thought that may be an idea, though I suppose they'd just suggest starting up a new thread each time. By having a permanent one, it would enable GNetters to continue previous chats. Just a thought
I suppose some folk can quite happily get away with 3hrs sleep a night - snatched whenever possible, other lucky people seem to happily fall into an instant deep sleep as soon as their head hits the pillow - a trait I envy.
I've been awake most of the night coughing and feel very tired now, so will go off for a lay down this afternoon - doubt I'll sleep. What happened to the days (nights) when I'd roll home from a party at 4.00am, sleep til 7.00am then quite happily get up to go to work!
Although it is gone 9:30 I'm the only one up in our house. My wife doesn't sleep well during the night due to arthritis pain but she seems to sleep better in the mornings. And our son, who is living with us at the moment, is still in bed - but that's understandable as he didn't come in from work until 2:30 this morning and will be going back to work about 2pm. And me? I've got half-a-kilo of Aldi's best steak mince in the frying pan just browning-off before I put it in the slow cooker with carrots, a couple of handfuls of Tesco frozen leeks, and some beef stock to make a cottage pie for dinner for the three of us. Wife and I will have ours about 7pm and our son will warm his up when he comes in (whaterver time that may be).
Good morning everyone! I have revived this thread for us insomniacs (and GN'rs overseas) so we have a meeting place to chat through the wee small hours - we're not on our own.....
I find if I don't use the computer before going to bed has helped me get to sleep.
Although having grandma duties that have been tiring and my son goes gets up around 5.30 am so he can return early.
Today it is a carol service with the school but at the local cathedral, then grandma duty until they both return.

Can't sleep, won't sleep? I thought it might be a good idea to revive this thread. Sometimes it's a comfort to chat to someone else in the 'small wee hours'. I didn't get much sleep last night, I'm a night owl but unfortunately need to nap during the day.

Thank you Marelli.
Up early today as my littlest grandson was coming, we very rarely see him since he started school and my childminding finished, so every visit from him is very welcome. He hogs the laptop though, lol!
Up and out at crack of dawn to vote, after laying for hours pondering
Evenin' all. I've had a hard days night singing and my voice is to pot, so I'm having an early (12.15am) day tonight - well, that's to say I'm going to bed now but could well be sat here again on GN at some silly hour of the morning....
Goodnight, rascal.
I will be off to bed soon. I'm usually in bed by this time and don't usually have any trouble falling asleep as I'm so tired. I wish my DH was still here with me but that was not to be... Good night all, Happy dreams.
I too have a DH that falls asleep the second he switches off his light. When the light goes out I count down 3 2 1 and he's snoring, so you are not alone Marelli. I will not give up the bedroom though, it is the only king size bed and it has the en suite so if push comes to shove I will fight him for it
My OH was essentially kicked into the spare room when he began sitting up late at night and then crawling into bed at some stupid hour of the morning icy cold and waking me up.
I made it clear I was not putting up with it any more. I sleep a lot better knowing I am not going to be disturbed.
Oh, the joy of the single status!
Although married I can't stand sleeping with the Hub,as all night long he jumps,n kicks his legs, He does the same all day when he's sat watching TV he crosses his legs and swings his foot around with his slipper half off his foot none stop until I have to leave the room as I can see it and I can't concentrate on reading or TV it's so distracting...Needless to say I'm glad when it's bed time and I've got a king size bed all to myself lol lol I know he can't help it but it's wears me down and I'm finding it hard to sit with him and I'm spending more and more time in my room .... At least my room gets to keep very tidy.lol anyone else have similar probs??.
It's a furry owl full of lavender that you heat up in the microwave and then take it to bed. Mind you, it's really cold tonight so I'm carrying it around inside my jumper.
I had a cat that would jump full weight on my stomach waking me from a sound sleep. Once my instant reflex was to push her off me sending her flying off the bed!
Tegan what's a hooty? Did you mean hoody? You know I learn a lot from you guys. Its one of the reasons I'm here.Although I seem to be lurking lately. Please excuse the 'you guys' it's hard to break the habit!
Mia only joins me on the bed first thing in the morning, whenever she decides that it`s time for me to get up, when she parades up band down over my pillow, rubbing her face against my head!
Now, I do miss having a cat in the bed although it's many years since I had one that didn't cause problems [eg waking up in the early hours and knocking things off shelves to annoy me]. I had a little black cat that just used to sleep in my arms like a little teddy bear. Although I do have a lavender Hooty these days.
It's nearly bedtime again and 'himself' has wandered through to the bedroom. It's becoming a bit of a palaver, all this.....getting into bed, settling with my book, then he puts his book down, shuts his light off and promptly starts snoring.....! How can anyone start snoring immediately - or even fall asleep as soon as they turn the light off
?
That's 3 nights now, that I've trudged through to the spare room, dragging my pillow like Christopher Robin dragging Pooh Bear, trying to hold my book, my water, etc, etc. Then I have to pull all the cushions off the spare bed (not fancy ones - I don't have fancy cushions, really- it's just somewhere I seem to store spare cushions). I even take my earplugs with me, in case he snores so loud that I hear him through there as well
.
Just had a thought.....perhaps he's doing it on purpose, as he wants to have the bed to himself - just him and Daisy (the cat)
?
