This is now open for cakes and coffee and hot buttered toast. I am donating the new batch of marmalade. Enjoy.

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:58:49

Enjoy time out with your friend, AlieO. I'm so looking forward to meeting with bags later in the week. grin

AlieOxon Fri 31-Jan-14 12:47:43

Yes, but Torben looks very cute.

It seems I have a dire rear!
I have come clean (!) now and will take a tartan rug, as I am cold and shivery which is probably stress. I've brought a hot water bottle to put on my stomach.

At least I will get away this afternoon, I am taking my other next door neighbour shopping. Waiting for 2pm!

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:25:49

grin anno We have Torben the tyke.

annodomini Fri 31-Jan-14 12:23:25

kitty, where you have Bertie the b****r, I have Max the m*****r. And he's six! Maybe it's a good thing I live a fair old distance away!

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:19:44

Gaga you are right. A mini tornado is blowing here too. A bit scary at times. shock

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:17:50

I dare not say Good morning to you all because the weather in bonnie Kintyre is horrendous. Gale force wind, lashing rain, ferry postponed. A good time to take time out with my Granspals. brew cupcake and plenty of blether. grin

It's good to see you again, dustyangel Funny how I used to really like housework. I suppose one can have too much of a good thing. hmm I seem to have mad spurts of activity [which knock the stuffing out of me]. Otherwise, I do the bare minimum. Much more to my liking.

kitty I like the sound of boisterous Bertie. You are obviously a very capable granny. How I envy you. Our wee boy lives 600 miles away. It will be spring before we visit London. We've already set a date for later in the year when all the family congregate in Oakham for an entire weekend. It's the best treat of the year. Something to focus on during these wet and windy days. sunshine Almost forgot to mention your visit to Mum. Well, what an improvement. I'm delighted to hear that she has such a good appetite. Lovely news.

anno One of our favourite films is Brassed Off. Have it on video. Both MacSporran and I like listening to brass band music. It lifts the spirits. We're also very fond of the Pipes and Drums. We had a wonderful evening some time ago at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

AlieO The sounds that assault your ears are good sounds...they're proof that work is in progress. Take a seat...after I've removed that squashed courgette from your rear-end. I washed, ironed and aired all the tartan rugs in the week. wink

Nellie dear, never fear, I've a fresh courgette that you may have. It appears that AlieO has demolished the one you left behind...grin

Gagagran Fri 31-Jan-14 12:03:03

kitty there's a bit of my best butter shortbread left - think you need fortifying against the mini tornado! Please do finish it then I can take my plate home!

kittylester Fri 31-Jan-14 11:48:31

Finished mine [halo] Boy do I need a brew and a sit-down before DD3 and two tinies arrive here for the afternoon. You'll understand why I need the rest when I tell you that one of the two is Bertie the b****r. He's gorgeous but a little tornado and I am 65 y'know! [exhaustedalready]

AlieOxon Fri 31-Jan-14 11:16:37

Coffee - sounds like a plan!

annodomini Fri 31-Jan-14 11:07:40

Morning, all. My ironing board is set up with the iron waiting to be used. It was there yesterday too... Last night I went with NWR chums to a brilliant amateur performance of Brassed Off. A local brass band provided the music and blended seamlessly with the actors. It was so good that you could forget that they were amateurs. Funny, sad and very political. Well, that's my culture for the week. Six Nations starts tomorrow. Woo-eee!

AlieOxon Fri 31-Jan-14 10:55:23

Hi everyone.
Thanks kitty. Chainsaws and shredder all round the house here. Lovely.
Crumpets, yum.
Nellie- was THAT what I just sat on?

(I am going to experiment with eating butter, which I've been avoiding with the cow milk, but discovered over Xmas that I can eat those plain chocolate orange things which do have milk fat in. So.....shortbread biscuits coming up later!)

dustyangel Fri 31-Jan-14 10:49:37

Hello Kitty, snap! I've popped in to avoid the housework.grin

I just have a cup of coffee before I go back.

kittylester Fri 31-Jan-14 09:43:45

Morning all! I'm in here avoiding the ironing!! My niece once said that her ironing pile was so high that she needed oxygen to reach the top. grin Mine is somewhat similar.

I've brought crumpets, slathered in 'best butter'. I've never thought about 'best' and 'non best' before Gaga but this is Countrylife - maybe that's not 'best' confused

Hope you found your courgette Nellie before someone sat on it. grin

Alie - hope all is going well with 'next door' flowers (that was ironic) grin

Nelliemoser Thu 30-Jan-14 18:17:05

Hello all! nice to see you again Kitty! I have just popped back in to see if I left about half a rather withered courgette in here. I had two pieces and needed them to add to the roast veg, feta and pasta.

I will have a brew and a slice of Gagagrans shortbread before I go back to check on the dinner.

Heaven knows what happened to that damn courgette! Beware! The soggy courgette thieves are out and about. #wandersoffmuttering.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 17:48:22

Thanks soop - bye for now.

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-14 17:28:05

Afternoon all, just popped i for a 'wee' while and to catch up on all the blethering. grin

Talk of cars made me think of my Citroen 2CV which I loved to pieces. It didn't start unless it was in 2nd gear and one revved like blazes, but then it was fine. I cried when we sold that even though I was 'inheriting' DH's Volvo. sad

I've had a full bladder camera thingy and I disgraced myself getting off the bed too blush Don't tell McSporran but I reckon it is probably worse for women than men. Good luck next Tuesday. Good luck with yours too, OGM and, if you are lucky Alie they will forget you might need one! grin

I went to see Mum this afternoon and, as she rarely eats, I expected to see her wasting away and a little smaller and thinner but she had just polished off a beef curry with rice, apple pie and custard, a cup of tea and was about to start on the cheese scone that the staff had brought in for her. After that, she started on the chocolates I took in. confused

The crumpets look delicious but I have a baked potato, lamb chop and broad beans waiting for me. DH is out for the evening so I am going to revel in the solitude, eat broad beans [he hates them] and maybe have wine while watching Stenders and this week's Death in Paradise.

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 17:16:54

Lovely to have shared some time with all of you. Darkness is falling. The sea is a strange shade of violet. No rain or wind today. A nice change. Wishing my Granspals a peaceful evening - especially AlieO

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 17:12:30

Nellie it's a fact that when the outlying area was covered in deep snow last year, we had no idea that a blizzard had closed the village and not even the snow ploughs were super efficient at clearing the road. Here, there was no snow whatsoever. The Gulf Stream means that we are always warmer here than our friends location just three miles inland.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 17:09:53

Haven't seen the otter.....never mind.
The noise has stopped, the triffid has been taken away and I am going to cook.
Back later maybe. Thanks.

Lona Thu 30-Jan-14 16:56:56

soop It sounds very much as though Rory is afflicted with the 'green eyed monster' grin

Nelliemoser Thu 30-Jan-14 16:53:29

Soop Being so near the sea clearly keeps it mild where you are.

In Cheshire it is still very cold and grey. My snowdrops are showing white but unless it gets warmer suddenly, fat chance of them flowering soon. I doubt if they will be properly out for at least another week.

You are clearly benefiting from the (relatively) warm seas swishing around the western coasts of Scotland. I am very envious of your coastal views, sunsets and wildlife.

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 16:40:08

Oh, Lona I had better not repeat what it is you tell me about full bladders. It just wouldn't be fair.

As for sticky toffee pudding and fresh cream, that is worth sharing. We only have a very small village shop nearby. 24 miles to Tesco and the Co-op in Campbeltown or 13 miles to a smaller Co-op in Tarbert. Of all the supermarkets, I prefer Asda. Not one of those unless we drive to near Glasgow. smile

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 16:34:22

I could hear the piano playing as I ironed away, Gagagran. All so soothing. No sign of the otter. Rory has been having a staring match with Tortoiseshell kitten. She enjoyed a very early supper. He caught wind of it and she went to sit on the low branch of her favourite tree in the copse. After Rory had thoroughly checked that all the food had been consumed, he sat close to the fence and fixed her with a penetrating stare [no blinks]. MacSporran and I watched from the window. Fifteen minutes later they are continuing to stare. hmm

Lona Thu 30-Jan-14 15:44:32

Hello all, I couldn't resist the shortbread gaga, so I'll make some fresh tea for us.
I've been trailing round Waitrose and I definitely need a cosy sit down and a 'blether' with the 'kitchen crowd'.

I've brought a large Sticky Toffee pudding and some fresh cream.........I'll leave it on the table so all can share wink

soop, I hope the scan goes well on Tuesday for MacSporran. I have them every two years with 'a full bladder' and I can tell you I've had a few embarrassing moments getting on and off the bed! blush grin

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 15:25:42

Thanks - yes please, to both shortbread and music!
