A bit gloomy, damp and windy here but I am determined to remain upbeat. 6 weeks after a hip replacement op my life is beginning to return to normal

A bright start here in Kent. DH and I are going to the antiques fair at Detling this morning. We have to be home in time for him to watch the rugby though.

Bright and sunny in NW London. I swept up leaves yesterday and looking out now it would appear that I had never touched the 4 allocated car park spaces that I cleared.

Good morning,it was a good morning until five minutes ago, then it started to pour with rain, and suddenly became quite dark - the joys of winter. Not a lot planned for today, so we shall see what it brings. Enjoy your days - and take care Humbertbear, no running or skipping!

Good morning not quite raining in Cheshire.

I was interested in the hippies club remarks about feeling better.

Last Wednesday I had surgery to remover bony spurs from my right shoulder which had been causing be a lot of discomfort since early May.

On investigating that, dear Mr Surgeon discovered and repaired a torn rotator cuff tendon and has left a torn biceps tendon to heal. This means the whole recovery process will take a lot longer than I expected.

I am still at the OMG this bloody hurts stage. It's my right arm, I cannot drive' I am trying to type left handed and I am generally feeling sorry for myself.

It is helpful hear that you hippies are now feeling better.

Its the sort of thing you have to keep in mind, but that is hard at times. It's feeling in even in more pain than I did before, which was bad. There is a stage in this process where you eventually realise it's not as painful as it was but I am a long way off yet.
Hence the almighty whinge and bouts of feeling sorry for myself.

Nellie sorry about the pain you're having, hope it soon goes into 'this is bearable' mode before disappearing altogether. If the others are 'hippies' you must be in the 'army'

I'm very happy and relaxed on this Saturday morning, I've the 'oh the joy of the house to myself feeling', in bed, pottering away on GN and checking Twitter and chatting to my insomniac SIL in the States all at the same time, flicking between screens. I really must get up now and take the plate and cup back to the kitchen (I brought French toast and tea up for breakfast in bed earlier .)

GK I'm evidently a hippie in the army. Hip and shoulder have both had replacements.
Nellie, It will get better but take it easy in the meantime and keep on taking the painkillers. There must be an epidemic because on Thursday I saw a friend with her arm in a sling and it turned out that she'd just had what you've had done!

anno LOL. But, ouch too. I know all about hip replacements, but no personally, my daughter had one at age 15 (and a revision at 19).

Glad you are starting to feel better Humbertbear. And Nellie you will start to feel better again. It is a horrible stage that has got to be gone through so that your body can heal.
Actually when I'm like that, I can't believe that I will ever feel better ever but I do and you will too. It's good that your surgeon found the damage now so that everything can heal together. and Virtual flowers and tea are best because you don't have to do anything with them!

Hunbert I'm on my third! 2 on the left and one on the right! I used to sail until oh died 10years ago. We had 4artificial hips between us and a second hand kidney!
We called ourselves the replacement squad!

*LizG thanks, yes it was awful. It had an immense impact on her teenage years . Because it was quite experimental surgery to do on someone so young, she walks with a slight limp (they struggled to find prosthetics that fitted). She's mostly okay now though, the revision is still holding up well after 16 years and of course things improve with new developments all the time. She has a huge scar along her thigh which I don't think would be the case nowadays.

We've had some amusing moments about it too - e.g. we often chuckled about the incredulous look on the faces of many a doctor when as a teenager she would inform them "I've had a hip replacement". We struggled along (really struggled along) after she had an accident at age 12, waited until a replacement was viable, so that she didn't end up with a hip fusion, which was her only option. I'm so glad we didn't take that offer, but for those 3 years she was incapacitated, and in a great deal of pain most of the time.

Goodness what a dreadful time for you all GK puts my situation (which has greatly improved recently) into perspective. How brave your daughter was and how special all of you were to be able to laugh together. Have to say I am virtually speechless but wish your daughter all the best and long life to her hip.

Nelliemoser a rotator cuff repair takes time to heal but it will do. I understand that you had not planned ahead for this op so of course you cannot drive and will not be able to for a little while.

Maybe you should take a trip to Soop's kitchen and have Rory lying on your lap and purring. That will make you forget about your pain temporarily.

Good afternoon everyone - writing this in the middle of the channel coming towards Portsmouth. Sad to say we can see the impending storm coming! I am a bad sailor and did not attempt any lunch - we left St Malo at 10-30 and due to dock at 18-30. It got better so was able to have a strawberry tart with my coffee this afternoon. Now when I look out of the right side window sometimes I can see water and sometimes not so I think it must be a bit rougher so will is sit tight for a while.
All those hippies take it easy and Nellie so hard with a shoulder injury - I have managed to break my right one twice - so inconvenient for doing things. Are you able to dress at all - I got a couple of cheap T shirts - very large- and cut across the shoulder seam to pull them on - then went for the punk look with safety pins to stop it falling down. Hope it is less painful soon

Nellie pain really drags you down. I hope you are feeling better soon

This is a heartsink moment. I'm hoping he will be a good patient but DH has had the scan or whatever and is seeing someone very good at shoulders when we come back from babysitting on the 11 th. I'm not looking forward to his op.
It seems our flight out will be in the thick of the gale tomorrow. I'm hopeful the clocks changing will confuse the storm and it will go away.

I thought they went back next weekend. I've just checked. It's tomorrow!

Having posted earlier today about having my arm in a sling following a still very painful shoulder tendon repair it is probably not wise to climb on a chair to look into a food cupboard.
