Carol Ann Duffy's poem re moving the goalposts

I saw her read lots of her own poems at a local theatre last summer and I have to say she was brilliant, Mrs Midas being a poem that particularly made me laugh. She also answered questions about her poems that are in the exam set books for English. I was amazed at how entertaining an evening it was and how interesting I found it.

Up until now I've not been impressed by Carol Ann Duffy, but I really like this one!

So clever. Oh to be able to write like that!

Fabulous, I hadn't seen this so thanks Eloethan. I enjoy Duffy, she's a breath of fresh air.

That is so good! I do like Duffy, but agree she is not a good reader. I love "The World's Wife". She takes the voice of the wives of men from throughout history and gives their interpretation of events. I'm sure you'll know it. Some are poignant, others funny:

We went to the zoo.
I said to him
"That chimpanzee over there looks exactly like you."

I think it's refreshing that she doesn't feel obliged to churn out poems for "state occasions" in the way that Andrew Motion did. I read that he felt quite pressured and uncomfortable about it.

I like that! I find Carol Ann Duffy writes well enough but I really don't think she can read her own work particularly well. Like a number of other authors and Poets . Radio 4 often get writers reading their own work and some are really not very good at this which can spoil a good story.

Our local MP , minister for agriculture at the time, and who was, in part, responsible for the decision to go ahead with the 'Cull' has resigned.
It (the Cull) is such a mess and should never have been allowed in the first place!
Juragran, who no longer appears on the forums, wrote an interesting post some time ago but did not add to the recent thread.
