recently saw Lincoln at the cinema and this sent me searching for more information and re-discovering what a remarkable man he was. Apparently, the most quoted president of the US. So here is one of my favourites. What quotes have inspired you.

“Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing.”
Letter to Isham Reavis, November 5, 1855

One quote that I always keep in mind is......and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.....From Mother Julian of Norwich, the first woman to write a book in English. She was born about 1342 and died about 1416.

My MiL used to say of someone who thought him/herself above others:

'Thinks himself everybody 'cos his mother's got a mangle' goodness knows where that came from. Also about a small object: 'That's a lovely little...... if it doesn't get any bigger'

Love her quotes and miss her dreadfully.

My father used say that someone was like 'A piffy up a stick!' never have been able to find out where this came from. He was from the Fens but none of my family know what a piffy is, anyone know?

Ana Mon 01-Apr-13 23:12:52

Class
The lower classes of men, though they do not think it worth while to record what they perceive, nevertheless perceive everything that is worth noting; the difference between them and a man of learning often consists in nothing more than the latter's facility for expression.
George Christoph Lichtenberg

Apologies! I was trying to link my reply to someone else and have ended up here! Haven`t posted for a long time.

I think it was Lincoln who was attributed with the comment, "God must love ordinary people - he made so many of them!"

We all know life can be challenging, stressful and sometimes, downright unfair. I once read,

"You can't change the way the wind blows but you can change the way you set your sails."

My mantra when things are 'difficult'!
