Same effect noe that an enormous buddleia has been removed from the corner of our garden. It has been slowly encroaching forfifty years or so - was full grown when we moved in. When I was younger I kept it pruned to a reasonable height and spread, but a few years of benign neglect have encouraged it. Can now see the trellis on the wall behind it, which holds up the remains of a climbing rose. That will get well pruned and might just flourish.
A big cheer for you ginny. I am sure you will feel uplifted by this because at this time of year, with all the depressingly dull days, we need all the light we can get! I can remember what a difference it made when we had 2 conifers cut down at the front of the house.
The conifers in the garden behind ours have at last been cut to a reasonable height. Also, the tatty old elder has been removed. The tree in the garden adjoing ours has also been pruned . I feel like I have been let out of prison.
