People have never shortened my real name, because like absent's it turns into another name if you do that. I do think it's a shame that some names are inevitably shortened - the name I gave my daughter is a beautiful, three-syllable name but is always known by just the first one.

anno But don't you find that people then lengthen it? Absentdaughter was originally called Grace, which she has actually changed legally because she hates it, and I had to stamp very firmly (figuratively of course) on people addressing her as Gracie.

My forename is short enough already - couldn't possibly be shortened any more.

I dislike having my real name abbreviated when it turns a separate name in its own right. It's not that I particularly like my name but it is my name whereas the shortened version isn't. The only one who was allowed to shorten it was my mama. Mind you, that's better than my father calling me "Doings" because he couldn't remember my name! (There were only two daughters in the family, so it wasn't that hard.)

I always think of a shortened name as a term of endearment to someone,and always hope it is accepted in that way,I quite like being glamma and never take offence, it's far better that being called some of the names my lot call me.

A lot of us used the word gran or some variation of that as a suffix or prefix when GN first started - perhaps we were a little unimaginative then as there are some wonderful names now!

Don't mind eggs that was always my nickname in my family growing up. My brothers still call me that.

Vamps/VQ I don't mind.

anno was what everyone called me when I was annobel, so in honour of my senior citizen status, I altered it to annodomini and I'm still anno. As long as I'm identifiable that's fine by me.
I reckon it's probably another 40 years before Jess Ennis joins G'net.

Whenever anyone uses that word I think of her. I have them just as good as hers but they are well hidden/covered, of yes they are.........................

When I was absentgrana lots of posters shortened it to absent. That was fine and is now what I have become. However, I refuse to answer to anything that sounds like a group of muscles – so please don't do it.
