Snow

Just been down town & saw a Council worker out picking up litter in the snow! Surely this is against H&S regs!!

You can have some of ours if you like Grannylin It sounds as if we have rather more than most.

Rain all day and 8 degrees in S. Devon..feel a bit left out!

Snowing again but not heavily. It's the kind of light snow that even so ends up several inches deep. Forecasters spot on, they said it would start again this afternoon.

Snowing but not heavily here on the Fens. There's an icy cold easterly wind so I'm glad I did my panic buying stocking up yesterday. Been reading an article about flanelette sheets in the DM (where would we be without it?) Apparently they are passion killers (I should worry!) So off to make the bed with the lovely fluffy one I bought yesterday.

Help! It's snowing! I have been in the kitchen baking today and it is freezing in there (only room in the house that doesn't have a radiator). Don't complain to DH or I get back "Oh you don't know what cold is until you've spent winter in the Falklands sleeping in someone's attic under a corrugated tin roof! 14 below blah blah, no heating blah blah, sorts the men from the boys, blah blah". Think I'll pull the duvet off him tonight. See how he likes that!

DDs school is in Cheltenham, she's not working today but I notice the school is closed anyway!

Still going here, has been since yesterday evening and no sign of a thaw. Decided to get in the mood and drink gluwein (even if I don't know how to spell it)

Goodness, it's stopped and I can see Denny island and (just) Wales!

Oh, spoke too soon! Snowing again.

There was quite a covering when we woke up this morning, but it has all gone now, and - guess what - it's raining. DS1 in Hampshire couldn't get to work at all, DS2 tried to get from Cheltenham to Bristol and is now back at home.

I am quite happy that it has gone! People tell me that it doesn't lie because we're on the coast; think I'll wait and see.

It is beautiful outside, Winter trax worked ok but occasionally built up a lump of snow. Not sure if any better than naked walking boots.
A grumble of crows in the wood - they are usually out foraging at this time of day but they are in the tree tops, moaning about the weather to each other.

Up here in NE Cheshire, we have a lot less snow, Nellie. It's coming down in tiny flakes.

Gadabout you have my sympathies, though mine seems to be behaving at the moment.

In defence of UK snow-wimpiness, we don't usually get the 'dry', crisp snow that usually snowy places get, the sort that responds sensibly to a snow-blower. Ours is usually damp-squibby sort of snow.

Had an email a couple of days ago from Canada in which is was assumed we would be using chains on the tyres. I explained that we don't do that in the UK, we just stay in and moan that no one has cleared away the snow1

A rare sighting of a snow plough which is just going past my window (in a small town). I guess we're honoured because there's an Infants' school down the road - it's closed of course. I can't remember my school ever being closed through the bad winter of 62-63.
Still, our 'heavy' snow will give my son in Germany something to be cycnical about. And it's warmer outside than in our house - the central heating pump gave up the ghost yesterday.

I keep switching tv channels to try and get a better weather forecast

Winter tyres. In Germany and Austria a legal requirement from October to April. They work. Oh and front wheel drive vehicles if not 4 wheel drive. And then who cares if it snows. Where I live we get 20 to 30 centimeters every day or so for weeks on end. We carry on. If the schools closed, the kids would get no education at all.

Pretty bad here in Midlands, just taken me an hour to drive two miles .

Brain fuzzy. Jess unproductive. Coffee didn't work.
I blame the low light levels.
So I am going to try out my new Wintertrax gripper things that fit over shoes and give you grip in the snow. Boots, walking pole and balaclava weather. I may be some time.
