Has anybody else see their house insurance rise for single occupation?.

I agree there is no longer a reward for loyalty in insurance gracesmum in fact there seems to be an incentive for new customers at the expense of the loyal ones!

I also think you should shop around Hunter - loyalty to one company is not rewarded any more and also go back to your insurers and ask precisely why? Find out, if you can, what they offer new customers and then challenge them. There is no reason I can think of why sole occupancy should make you a higher risk. Good luck.

Dear Hunterf the best thing to do really IMHO is to speak to the insurance company and let them know your concerns, try and get things in writing from them as this elliminates the he said she said cenario. Best of luck with it..

I think they often find excuses to put the premium up for existing customers so go online and see if you can beat it. We do that every renewal. In one instance DH got a better rate by going online with the same company. Don't just accept it!

Having said that, in this house, I have only ever been on my own, but the premium went up several times, so I decided to change my insurer. AgeUK did me a very good deal.

We were asked that question when we renewed our insurance , did we go away and if so , was someone in the house ?

I am guessing at this HUNTERF but could it be something to do with the house being unoccupied more often if you are the only one living there? The more people occupying a house surely means the less of often the house is left empty and therefore the less chance of burglary ??

Just decided to move this to the top as I would have thought somebody would have had this situation on gransnet.
