I find I quite like using emoticons as punctuation. By which I mean that if I want to put a 
at the end of a post or sentence, I don't usually think it needs a full stop as well. Has anyone else found this?

Yes - especially if it's a 
- it doesn't really need an exclamation mark, either. I still tend to put one in though.....

I think it is OK eithe way. If you think it matters Bags put it in Pedants but then you would if you thought it did!

Now I want to remove the . after the etc because it seems superfluous even though I know it's correct.

Oh Bags I really like the . after etc. It's very satisfying. (Should I have put two there as it was the end of the sentence? again.
And isn't it annoying when you realise you've forgotten to close your brackets?
