What's the most "daring" thing you have ever done?

Getting married aged just 20, to a man I only knew for a few months- and moving far away from family, friends and support. And it worked Thinking about it, much more scary than parapenting, snowboarding or naturism

I've done quite a few things which turned out to be daring, but as they just sort of happened and weren't exactly planned I don't think they can count. The biggest planned most daring thing I've done has to be having 3 children in under 4 years. But even that didn't seem daring at the time.

Getting married (again) after a desertion and divorce. But I just knew that being a wife and Mum was what I was best at and, having spent yet another afternoon with Grandma and Mum (both bitter about men in general) droning on about how life had let them down, I just knew that if I did not 'get on the horse' again and soonish, I would have grown bitter and resentful. Also I had a baby daughter and the last thing I wanted for her was to grow up with such an unbalanced view. I joined 'Dateline' and suddenly found myself fending off some very nice men ( a great ego boost at the time). Husband No2 was very sure we would be right together and I felt it needed a leap of faith - so after a 6 months courtship we were married, nearly 30 years ago now, and still hanging in there.

Skinny dipping in the sea with my girlfriends. A real giggle - and felt very daring as it wasn't very far from home and there could have been lots of people we knew walking along the prom!

We met in May on holiday in Portugal, himself English and me Dutch. We got married in August of the same year.
It was a long distance courtship, and when I added up the days we had actually been together I was horrified that it was only six weeks!
We celebrated our 40th last month.
However, to give up home, family, friends and support does come at a price.

I escaped from my ex after a lifetime of doing as I was told.

Doing IT on a train between Barking and Fenchurch street with no1 many years ago when trains had compartments

That is nothing compared to loosing your skirt on an overnight flight..........

Flying for the first time on my own at 55,..... to Guatemala, for 3 months to do voluntary work when I found out my husband had cheated on me. It was so good and gave him such a fright

I wish, littlenell. In those days, the middle seventies, we took a change of clothing. So, no, I lost the skirt, which was part of a set by Mary Farrin. The queen of English knitwear in those days, but you are too young to remember, I think.
In any case the staff damn well knew you would be far too shy ( shy ? ) to ask the where abouts of your skirt. Especially after a LIQUID dinner.

Thanks for the compliment johanna I ditched no1 and was about to wed no2 by the mid 70's but not being a fashionista I wouldn't have known who Mary Farrin was,probably some trolley dolly took a liking to to it whist you where occupied and helped herself

I went to help on the phones at Barack Obama's HQ in Chicago in the 2008 presidential elections, even though I wasn't officially allowed to travel due to my illness. A spontaneous decision, it was the most amazing, informative and inspirational thing I did. It brought me in contact with supporters from all over Europe, with Americans who were gobsmacked at my being there, and some pretty dedicated people who gave a lot of their time, energy and resources to demonstrate their hopes and faith in the Senator. Their unselfish actions showed, without a doubt, the meaning of the slogan, "Yes, We Can!"

Certainly one of the best experiences of my life. Even if he is re-elected, there will be no moment to match that very first one. Something to tell my grandchildren.

When I was a shy, intovert 19 year old living away from home my room mate arranged a blind date and I agreed to go because I was too embarrassed to admit I was scared. 12 days later he proposed to me and we have been married for 44 years. He has helped me develop as a person and a mother and grandmother. I think we must be permanent now.

Hilda W it's the same for me, after a fairly unhappy verbally abusive marriage I didn't feel I wanted to marry again, but my knight in shining armour came along and I couldn't resist

OK Elegran looks like we will have to keep working at it. We are off to the gym together now, not sure if that is good or bad!

There was the day I revolted at work: I was a 16 year old civil servant at a County Court, the youngest there, and they were treating me rotten, giving me more work than was humanly possible to get through, and having a go at me for not managing it. I threw a wobbly, kicked my desk over, kicked the paperwork I was supposed to be doing all around, told them what I thought of them all, and took myself off home in a fit of fury.(Dad made me go back the next day: when i got there I had a new desk, the work was done, and they had arranged for me to go on the training course I should have been sent to to weeks earlier. They said it was not 'cos I'd thrown a wobbly. Yeah.)

Or was it three years later, when I set off into the unknown to be an au pair girl in Austria, with lousy German skills. Rotten placement at first, but I changed to another family, and within 6 months I was fluent and happy.

Or was it getting married to a sailor I hardly knew, after going out with him just 4 months and only seeing him every other weekend.(45th anniversary just gone)

Then there was emigrating....

I don't know which was the scariest.

These days I'm pretty staid, though i have done some acting in our U3A Performance Group. Scary, but not as much as the early stuff.

It was a VERY long ago...my then lover and I made love in the park, in the dark, near-naked in the snow. Cripes!!! It really was a wonder that his goolies didn't drop off PS Don't tell anyone!
