Autograph Books

My granny quoted Shakespeare in my autograph book: 'Neither a borrower nor a lender be.'
My friends' inscriptions were usually variants of 'roses are red, violets are blue...'

The one I remember is:

Found my old autograph book given to me for my birthday by my brother in Sept 1957!!

In my grandmother's autograph book from early 1900s:

'Don't marry for love

I will try and find my ancient autograph book as I remember a verse my Grandmother wrote in it 50+ years ago - words to the effect ....

If you today should do today what you today should do .... followed by something like tomorrow you will only have tomorrow's jobs to do and none carried forward ?

'Never leave until tomorrow what you should do today ..." (may be part of the one above?)

My pesky little brother, who was about six at the time, sneaked my autograph book out of my school satchel. It was the day before my birthday and he wrote,

A Happy Birthday every year,
I hope you get NO PRESENTS, dear.

I often remind him of it

My Yorkshire grandad wrote in mine:
The man who never made a mistake never made aught.

A boyfriend wrote that when I was in the 6th form.

A rabbit has a shiny nose

written in my autograph book by a teacher, she drew a lovely little rabbit and flowers to accompany it. I have lost the book, but have never forgotten the rhyme - 53 years ago

My father wrote in my autograph book many moons ago:

I never had an autograph book and the irony is that I used to help my mum who was a waitress and often met famous people through her job, so could probably have got lots of names. Lots of footballers especially and Roger Moore once.
