Mine is finally getting a knitted teddy bear to look reasonable. I am hopeless at faces on any toy I knit. These little teddies looked so easy, but the first two I made are currently starring in their own Horror Movie called "How to terrify a Child."

DD phoned to tell me my twin GDs had their first swimming lesson today, and loved it! Considering the trouble she had getting them to have a bath a couple of years ago, I'm surprised but extremely pleased! smile

I do think it's important for them to learn to swim at an early age (they are 5, so not very early!) and it's good that the school is taking them because at the local swimming pool there has to be one adult for every child, so DD couldn't take them on her own.

Today my almost 8-year-old grandson (from Hampshire) was attending a meeting in Bradford with his head-teacher who was addressing heads and advisers and other educationalists on the subject of Education for the 3rd Millennium. He and one of the girls from the school introduced a power-point presentation about the way children learn now and told the audience about the experience of their school. I have watched it on a re-run of the live streaming and am so very proud of him. He wasn't a bit overawed or shy. I knew he wouldn't be, because he is a highly articulate child with a good stage presence. He was the one who got to do the jokes! At the moment he will be on the train home, but tomorrow I will tell him how proud I am.

Well, our neighbours who are in charge of a little local Jubilee Party have all their bunting up - we have only the Union Jack, which is typically us. It is a bring your own effort, just a gathering of about 20 people and we have been asked to do the entertainment - quizzes, 'play your cards right', bagatelle, anything else we can find from the grandchildrens collection (now no longer used), and I believe bingo has been mentioned (GROAN.......). The weather forecast is not good.

Just back from France; left home at 7.15, on the shuttle at 8.30. I'd pre ordered the wine etc so just picked it up (and added a bit more!) then pottered off to local supermarket to buy nice cheese etc. Finished off with enormous lunch and wine, then back to the shuttle and here we are, home. I am lying down now...

It seems worth the trip again; for a while there wasn't much difference. But the Pinot brand I buy at Sainsburys for over £4.50 was on offer at £2.50, for example.

Why does a caterpillar need a tunnel?

Grannylin Wed 30-May-12 15:20:24

Just been to Tesco and bought a caterpillar tunnel, a paddling pool and a fold up trike for grandson's visit at the weekend. It's so exciting buying toys again...I want to try them out myself!

Just taken Nell to the vets for her booster jab. Whilst waiting, a girl about 4 came in with her mum and dad and a cat in a basket. The girl took one look at Nell (basset hound with love in her eyes) and exclaimed 'that's the doggy I want, not a cat!!' She asked permission to stroke her and they made friends and spent a few minutes entwined. As I left 10 minutes later, she could still be heard protesting 'but I want a doggy like Nell.....' Ooops! grin

We are going up to the house for most of the Bank Holiday weekend to get some work done and have just spoken to farmer next door. We have just had an invite to the village Jubilee celebrations, been told to take my dancing shoes, so that was a lovely surprise smile

granjura that is one of the places I would love to return to, seems a long time ago. sad It was a perfect holiday! You are very lucky to live there.

granjura Sat 26-May-12 21:48:11

Was just going to say 'must have been lac Chalain then! Not that close to us, about 1 hour away. Yes, lovely area.

glassortwo Sat 26-May-12 21:38:57

granjura I think it was beside Lac de Chalin, we went on the train down to (would it have been) Lake Geneva? My memory is not what it was , it was a holiday to remember, we were there in June and we had very hot weather and one day hailstones like golf balls and it dinted in my new car shock

glassortwo Sat 26-May-12 21:21:31

It was French and we were Euro camping, will have to put my thinking cap on as it was 25 years ago, it was a fantastic holiday lovely area.

granjura Sat 26-May-12 21:08:19

glassortwo - can you remember where you were exactly. French or Swiss Jura?
Very unknown generally by British tourists generally. If any of you are ever in the area, do get in touch so we can meet up for coffee or lunch.
