Wouldn't do if we were all the same! grin

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 19:12:49

Picked you up wrong, sorry, Anagram and jeni. My husband won't do his test either, and I've tried to persuade him. I don't know if it's the thought of how it's done, or if he feels like jeni, but it's his choice, and I can do no more to persuade him.

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 19:06:13

I binned the whole kit, too.

jeni Mon 14-May-12 18:59:24

No! I binned the kit! I do not want to know! I am on my own and do not want any further surgery or investigations. I am 67 and I will enjoy what life I have left. I don't want to live for ever and with my arthritis, I would hate to live for too long!
If this makes me sound sad, I'm not. It is just how I want to live and die!

Elegran Mon 14-May-12 18:58:14

I binned the used spatulas too, wrapped in toilet tissue - not sure what they expected you to do with them - putting them down the loo seemed a bad idea, giving a focus for "stuff" to get caught on going down the pipes .......

Elegran Mon 14-May-12 18:55:38

We are lucky that there is a test which detects early signs of bowel cancer. Maybe it also detects other causes of internal bleeding, but lets not nitpick - it does save lives.

jeni Mon 14-May-12 18:55:37

My husband reported bleeding to his gp, who said it was just piles!
My husband believed him rather than my pleadings to check with his transplant surgeon. When he eventually followed my advice it was inoperable!

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 18:54:08

I didn't bin my kit, Elegran _ I binned the used spatulas. I think that's what jeni and Anagram meant, too?

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 18:52:55

You're right, of course, Elegran. Your post puts it all into perspective. smile

Elegran Mon 14-May-12 18:50:42

I don't know any statistics on this, but I do know that my DH tested positive and was sent for more tests, which showed that he had a tumour in his bowel. He had in fact been having other symptoms but (just like a man) he thought they were normal.

A year before he received his kit, I received mine, which did not have any nasty results. Now, had his been the earlier one, perhaps his tumour would have been detected before it spread, and I would not have had to organise his funeral two weeks ago. That may not be economically viable, but it would have made me very much happier.

Do not bin it. Grit your teeth and get scraping with the little spatula. It could save your life

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 18:49:24

It's not a survey, is it?

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 18:47:58

Surve, jeni? I thought it was a health initiative that was being rolled out all over the country - but I could certainly be wrong!

Ariadne Mon 14-May-12 18:42:31

Happy birthday, Nightowl xxxx

jeni Mon 14-May-12 18:31:40

I wonder just what the response rate is and how many of those are positive? And of those positive results, how many are actual Ca rather than other causes of bleeding!
In other words, is this survey economically viable?

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 18:28:29

It would just be a tiny wee bit, jeni grin (*Anagram*, mine went the same way as yours).

jeni Mon 14-May-12 18:27:05

Same here!

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 18:20:05

What did you do with yours, Jess?
I'm afraid I binned mine....

JessM Mon 14-May-12 18:13:11

Ah yes, what a lovely 60th birthday gift from the NHS. Somewhere in the depths of the Health section is my thread on this , from 12 months ago.

jeni Mon 14-May-12 17:15:23

It's what's on them I worry about!

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 17:13:06

It would be pollution, jeni....but there again 'those' Poo(h) sticks are made of cardboard, so would just break up in the water! wink

jeni Mon 14-May-12 17:08:51

Pollution!

greenmossgiel Mon 14-May-12 17:05:13

Happy birthday, nightowl! (Thankfully when you receive your poo kit, you're also given poo(h) sticks.....you can float them down the river if you like)! grin

Hunt Mon 14-May-12 12:07:49

la le la la la la, la le la la la la, la le la la dear nightowl! la le la la la la.I always text this to my family members on their birthdays so here it is for you.

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 11:48:12

Yes, they probably thought it might be a bit too much on your special day! grin
