What's good in your world....?

This weekend I've enjoyed a champagne tea party (where I met a man who really is a 'rocket scientist');
watched all the episodes (do date) of The Bridge;
cleaned the patio and planted some pretty spring flowers round the pond;
attended a 'literary salon' (not really sure what it's about yet, but it was fun meeting lots of new people);
had a lovely chat with the Wonderful Man (who has now been gone since Friday morning and is almost at Hirtshals, North Denmark)
and spent a lovely morning with my daughter, her fiance and my grandson.

Finally - and most importantly - after a terrible accident which resulted in her developing meningitis, the 7 month old granddaughter of a friend is improving and it seems the anticipated damage will be less severe than was expected.

What's good for you right now?

nellie I kept shouting for you. Had to sing solo - much to everyone's dismay. I was also exceedingly squiffy...hmm

My son will be fast rope abseiling from the roof of St Pancras station in London in aid of The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund on September 14th. He's a journalist...so unaccustomed to such daring deeds. He's hoping to raise £10,000 for injured Marines and their families. Anyone who would like to donate, please Pm me and I shall give you details of the website. Should Cari and Geraldine object then I'm sure that they'll delete.

Great news Nellie seems we can all find friends here when we need them. I expect most of us will have our turn in time.

Greatnan Thu 10-May-12 10:14:31

Nellie - your own story puts mine into perspective. You are very brave and we all salute you.

I feel so lucky that my three sons get on so well and when they are together they laugh a lot and tease their mother.

When my husband died I needed a companion for regular walks and I found one in someone who was already a friend. Now we are close friends as we see one another usually five times a week.

I realise how fortunate I am to live in a modest but very old house with centuries of history and wonderful thick walls for when it gets hot in the SW France summer. There are so many happy memories of my husband within this building and although I miss him our home gives me a comfortable cwtch.

I had an uplifting telephone call from my daughter in NZ last night - she was offered a job as an instructor at Riding for the Disabled, but decided she preferred to be a volunteer so she could be home when her husband is off his ship (he works one week on, one week off). Still, it was nice to be valued so much. She is having riding lessons with another volunteer and has started doing dressage and jumping. Her happiness and that of her children is a great consolation to me.

Sounds fun Joan grin

Today I will mostly begetting excited about imminent arrival of new grandchild having already enjoyed chat on way to school with DGD1, proudly carrying her mum's old tennis racquet for her after school tennis club. Later will be off to lunch at favourite Lebanese restaurant to meet with former colleague... oh yes and some curtain makingconfused

I played lacrosse too. I was hopeless at hockey and netball. Loved the extra wildness of lacrosse.

absentgrana Thu 10-May-12 09:17:11

jeni I don't think I did much playing. I spent a lot of time hanging around the goal talking to the goal keeper and only occasionally got hold of the ball.

AlisonMA Thu 10-May-12 09:16:04

Such lovely posts, keep them coming so I can read them in the times when life is not so good.

My DHs relatives coming today and I have all the food prepared already, that makes me feel good - no last minute panics.

Bags Thu 10-May-12 09:11:28

Oops, I mean Wood Sorrel!

Bags Thu 10-May-12 09:11:07

Dandelion clocks and wood anemones on the way to school.

I love Wednesdays when i go to my writers' group. We encourage each other and learn a bit, but mostly we just laugh a lot. Then we go to the local cafe, have an iced coffee and share a bowl of potato wedges, and laugh a bit more. Then we go to our performance group rehearsals - the least said about that the better. Words like disorganised chaos come to mind...Still, we've got till August.

I love the winter sunshine we are having now - well, autumn really - when I can garden and play with the dog without getting too hot.

Pretty sure I meant 'Hidden Talents'! Time for bed.

Grannylin Wed 09-May-12 22:48:36

Thats really good gracesmum.Its such a relief not to be a teacher anymore, especially a teacher of MFL. Did you watch Unhidden Talents last night about the student learning Arabic...it reminded me of all the years I'd wasted trying to motivate kids to learn a language!
