Who's looking forward to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee? And who's excited about the Olympics?

I am a total monarchist, but can't work up much of a head of steam of excitement. I mean, well done, her for living this long, for doing a smashing job and God bless 'er, but I am not a bunting/ street party sort of person.
And as for the Olympics I dare say I will be watching sports which in other circumstances would paralyse me with boredom and at least it won't be the middle of the night for once. But "excited" would be to seriously over-state the case!!

I really appreciate the Royal Family and hope the Jubillee is something we can all enjoy not so the Olympics and as for needing abloody warship in the Thames words fail me!!

This week we've had a leaflet round to tell us all about the big events planned by our town council for the Jubilee weekend: street party, concerts, recitals, street performances. Who'd have thought it? And I'll be in Scotland that weekend.

But I am on the QM2 for the jubilee cruise which should be fun! Red arrows, fireworks, then Qm2 QE andQV setting off down the Solent. Led by me on Qm2

I usually organise any festivities in the communial garden at the rear of our apartments but residents do not seem interested for some reason and it is quite upsetting as they are all over 70yrs mr.glamma and I are the babies so I think I will just decorate the front garden area and have posh sandwiches and drinks in the afternoon.
Olympics are of no interest as I am sure the money that it has cost could be put to better use,all well and good it is bringing £s into London but will it be spread out within the UK or just line the pockets of the organisers.

Cannot raise a flicker of interest in the Jubilee, but I'm no monarchist. And really no bothered about the Olympics, though I'll enjoy watching some of it, and we do have tickets for one event which means we get a nose round the Olympic park. It is a one off for the UK after all, and we do live not too far away.

One DD-i-L was an international athlete, and we went to see her in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester; not something I'd ever have chosen to attend had it not been for her, and the atmosphere was truly amazing. I had never been to a big sporting event, and probably will never again, but it added a new experience to my life! So, one Olympic visit will do the same.

Yawn Yawn.....

I'm looking forward to both. Didn'y apply for tickets for the Olympics but will watch the torch bearer came by very close to my area - and will be glued to the box for both.

Whilst I admire the Queen I won't be doing anything to celebrate the Jubilee. As for the Olympics - big yawn. I am not into any sports whatsoever so I am stocking up with DVD's to see me through until its all over!

I'm glad that others have no interest in the Olympics - it makes me feel less of an old curmudgeon.
The jubilee I will treat as an excuse for the village to get together and have a bit of a knees-up.

Afraid I'm not really interested in either. We shall be away for the jubilee weekend with friends. I admire the dedication of the athletes and wish them well but I doubt I shall be watching much of either event.

Not interested in either although very elderly mother is coming to lunch to watch the Queen sail regally down the Thames. Glad I don't have to have a gun on my roof to stop invaders during the olympics

Slightly more interest in Olympics but wish GB had had the guts to stop the 'I can do it better than you' money wasting extravagance that ceremonies and new build/ infrastructure costs. It would have been innovative to have had the 'shoestring 'olympics! Have tickets for 3 events but none at the Olympic Stadium!

I agree with your comments about the massive expenditure on the Olympics, nanaej. It may be big, but it's not clever.
