I think forum etiquette is no more than normal good manners. I would not correct someone's grammar if I were speaking to them in person, and I don't correct any member's grammar, spelling or punctuation on forums.
Not easy for a pedantic former English teacher!

I can ignore personal insults (I think they say more about the poster than about me) but I think they are usually considered to be in breach of forum etiquette.

Mmm greatnan group dynamics! When new groups form there is usually a period of conflict before the group real gels.
This often repeats itself when groups expand. This has happened several times since I have been a member of GN. It will, no doubt, happen again. Could be described as the group equivalent of the "terrible twos" I guess. There has actually been quite a long period without a turbulent few days I think, so probably overdue.
Trying to do a spot of work here in NZ, while DS makes some bad backs better. Handsome brindled mastiff nudging my elbow now and again. We both need some dinner soon.

Greatnan did you want someone to disagree with you ? smile. I too have work to go to - after a weeks leave and rain and/or hail everyday

jeni Tue 24-Apr-12 08:38:04

Morning. I'm off to work in 10mins, catch up with you all later.
Oh, no dragon!sad

Greatnan Tue 24-Apr-12 08:29:29

I am puzzled. I have looked at my original post and it appears that nobody has actually disagreed with it - so why has it generated so many replies?
It is snowing heavily here, but I am off to spend a few days with a dear friend and I hope everyone feels as cheerful as I do this morning.

petallus Tue 24-Apr-12 07:12:07

There is no-one on GN that 'sticks the slim and sharpened knife in wherever they can' (though that is very poetically put).

Why don't those people who don't want this thread to continue absent themselves and anybody who feels the need to continue can do so and then I'm sure eventually it will die a natural death.

granbunny Tue 24-Apr-12 07:04:54

"Why don't we all ignore this thread from now on and concentrate on the important ones? "

because 'we' are not a clique?

shysal Tue 24-Apr-12 06:45:40

Why don't we all ignore this thread from now on and concentrate on the important ones? Let us think of baby Samuel's heart surgery, Elegran's loss and the real problems that many Gransnetters are experiencing. sad

granbunny Tue 24-Apr-12 00:26:59

i really do think you are being unfair, jingl, gracesmum and glassortwo. i have not been available all day to read the thread - i left home in the morning a little after seven and returned around 9 30pm. after that i had to eat and do some further work. you have been able to read and post as you like. yet, i am told i should not read the thread and there should be no response. that is deeply unfair. apart from anything else, when i have energy to spare, i shall have to pm geraldine.

glassortwo Mon 23-Apr-12 23:33:24

Well said grace

gracesmum Mon 23-Apr-12 23:29:04

I truly think a line should be drawn under this and a fresh start made. We can still enjoy a frank exchange of views and even seriously disagree without personalities coming into it. We can agree to differ and we can equally well provide compassion and support when needed. Let's not lose sight of that.
Sometimes feathers can get ruffled, feelings can get hurt as we all have days when we are much more sensitive than others, but from what I read, not one of us has a 100% happy, easy life - we all have our problems, to put it mildly and some of us are clearly a lot of pressure. So let's show more compassion and patience, take comments as intended - and also be careful how we express ourselves,. We are meant to be FRIENDS and friends do not consciously hurt or demean each other.
Please please, let us move on.sunshine - not dragon

granbunny Mon 23-Apr-12 23:05:16

i fail to see what this has to do with jeni - unless she has a guilty conscience of course, which is always possible. i certainly haven't mentioned her by name except here in response to your post.

and i will read it when i can, jingl. its all so much playground stuff - 'oh, we didn't do it, i'm so upset' whilst sticking the slim and sharpened knife in wherever they can!

imjingl Mon 23-Apr-12 22:19:30

granbunny - please don't.

It's all a fuss over nothing. Let it go. hmm

jeni will get over it. hmm

granbunny Mon 23-Apr-12 21:48:09

hmmm. i've had a busy day. i'll read this later!

petallus Mon 23-Apr-12 21:17:01

Jeni has just posted to say she has been very upset by recent goings on. I think this deserves a sympathetic response not comments re. childishness.
I agree with nightowl that we should be able to say what is on our minds without efforts being made to shut us up.

nightowl Mon 23-Apr-12 20:31:32

I think it's difficult to explain how distressing this was for everyone involved. People need to be able to say what's on their minds and hopefully it will all come to a natural end.

Hattie64 Mon 23-Apr-12 20:15:21

granjura, I have to say after reading this thread, I completely agree with you. This is a forum for Grandparents, adults, I am very disturbed reading all this. In fact I find it quite unbelievable.

mrshat Mon 23-Apr-12 20:13:53

Enough already!

granjura Mon 23-Apr-12 19:37:14

I am sorry, but this thread sounds like a girls only primary school playground.
Over and out.

jeni Mon 23-Apr-12 19:00:30

gbun for some reason I don't understand I seem to be on your hit list. I assure you I am not a bully, and have been very upset by your accusation.
If I have in someway offended you, I apologise, It was unintentional!

greenmossgiel Mon 23-Apr-12 18:21:56

Thank you. flowers I feel better now! smile

Anagram Mon 23-Apr-12 17:31:30

And you're absolutely right, green, your comment was certainly not the only bone of contention.

nightowl Mon 23-Apr-12 17:17:50

greenmoss it's admirable of you to come forward with that but you're right it wasn't only you that thought granbunny was not a genuine poster at first. I think people have apologised for any misunderstanding and I hope things can move on now that Geraldine has put HQ's perspective.

glassortwo Mon 23-Apr-12 17:06:54

No I wouldnt either jingle that bags is being a bit too familiar grin grin
