Engelbert Humperdinck
As a senior citizen I really do want older people to get opporotunities, but he does seem to be of a diaster waiting to happen. surely he has had his glory. We have so much musical talent in this country, I think it is only right that we should give one of them the chance to present us. Or am I not hearing/seeing things to clearly is it all going in one ear\eye and out the other
Never mind he might wear the Union Jack.

But here we are still talking about it!!
Actually I think all the countries should have to sing in their own language. It would make it much more interesting - I do actually enjoy listening to the song while reading the subtitles smile

45 or 95 - I don't care. I thought the Grannies were great - should have won. I thought Sweden's entry was a bit odd!

nanaej Mon 28-May-12 18:01:50

please release him, let him go, we don't love him any more...wink

goldengirl Mon 28-May-12 17:00:44

I can't believe I watched it! EH was an embarrassment, especially when he was interviewed just before and his song was totally unmemorable. The only good thing about the whole lot is that the majority of songs were in ENGLISH as were the judges spiels [that's German - he he]. The young male compere looked liked he'd just left school and this was his first job, bless him. As for Sweden, I thought it awful! Still at least we don't have to host it next year - and neither do Greece or Spain!!!!

nelliedeane Mon 28-May-12 16:41:08

Well he should be......they will have Tom Jones next.....eeeerrrghg grin.....look Jeni....I can do itxxxx

Anagram Mon 28-May-12 16:16:46

I don't think Englebert was embarrassed! grin

sandymac Mon 28-May-12 16:14:09

Let's get out of it NOW and stop embarrassing our singers.

gracesmum Mon 28-May-12 16:07:30

And if any of those countries try coming to us for a handout when their economy goes further down the pan.......it'll be "nul Euros"!

ninathenana Mon 28-May-12 15:35:31

I'm with you nelliedene

nelliedeane Mon 28-May-12 15:13:46

Can't stand Englebert, even 45 years ago we used to call him Dinglebert Dumpertruck....he was oily and cringeworthy...he hasn't changed.....am grinning

nanaej Mon 28-May-12 14:19:55

Turkey and Cyprus too! Not that I would worry either way but it would be tricky to exclude Syria, Jordan, Lebanon & Palestine plus all the 'stan' countries until in fact we had a whole word competition based on current competing countries..

janthea Mon 28-May-12 14:08:26

When we have talent like Adele, why do we always enter such rubbish songs and rubbish singers! I suppose really talented, successful people wouldn't want to risk being humiliated by the rest of Europe (? - since when was Isreal European?) who dislike us and would vote against just for the heck of it!! They have no taste any way!! angry

I hadn't realised that Eurovision was still going; I assumed that it had ceased decades ago. I hadn't realised that Englebert Humperdink was still going either. He must be nearly 100. I was out on Saturday evening. Who won this travesty of a contest? How many non-European countries were included this year? Does Israel still have honorary European status for the occasion? Shall we ever hear the winning song again or has it already disappeared into oblivion?

nanaej Mon 28-May-12 11:45:31

OH did not want to watch ESC so we watched a DVD instead..then when that finished he switched to the scoring... confused

gangy5 Mon 28-May-12 11:37:37

Now's the time to make a dignified exit of the Eurovision Song Contest!!

Anagram Sun 27-May-12 15:58:58

Good idea, jingl! Put your foot down! grin

j04 Sun 27-May-12 15:55:39

I'm just feeling a bit grumpy. Will drag family out of sun loungers and insist on being taken out. smile

j04 Sun 27-May-12 15:54:17

I know Anagram. Each to his/her own. wink grin x

Annobel Sun 27-May-12 15:47:20

I'm with nag on this. It was bad luck to be drawn to sing first. It was not a song to raise the spirits. But no matter what we do, we aren't going to get votes. We've tried all the perky Euro-pop stuff. Let's just wallow along at the bottom and not risk having to stage it.

Anagram Sun 27-May-12 15:46:43

I didn't like it.

So I didn't think it was a good song.

hmm

j04 Sun 27-May-12 15:40:22

Catchy, tuneful, pleasant, well sung.

What more do you want?

j04 Sun 27-May-12 15:39:19

It's not a matter of opinion. It was good as a pop song.

Anagram Sun 27-May-12 15:33:16

Well, it's a matter of opinion whether Englebert's song was good. I thought it was a horrible dirge.

j04 Sun 27-May-12 15:31:23

Oh you miserable lot

It's a good song and Englebert performed it well.

Was a good evening's entertainment!

Pity Loreen chickened out of making the political statement that she said she would if she won.

artygran Sun 27-May-12 14:21:25

I normally give anything to do with Eurovision a miss, it is such a travesty; but my son came down yesterday and as he was staying overnight and he and his wife usually watch it, I gave in, opened a bottle of wine, squirmed at our appalling song, badly sung and produced, and tried to numb myself to the rest of it! DS very accurately predicted who would vote for whom, and I got up this morning with a bloody hangover!
