Engelbert Humperdinck
As a senior citizen I really do want older people to get opporotunities, but he does seem to be of a diaster waiting to happen. surely he has had his glory. We have so much musical talent in this country, I think it is only right that we should give one of them the chance to present us. Or am I not hearing/seeing things to clearly is it all going in one ear\eye and out the other
Never mind he might wear the Union Jack.

glamma, if you did that, you'd be destroying their unique selling point - they have to look like 'babushkas'.

Anagram Sat 26-May-12 21:04:30

Or a lot of vodka! grin

glassortwo Sat 26-May-12 20:58:43

The 44/46 year old must have had a hard paper round grin

crimson Sat 26-May-12 20:55:12

Annobel; I was trying to work that one out. 44? Must still be a hard place to live,'back in the USSR'.....

glammanana Sat 26-May-12 20:52:39

Annobel I am sure that there must be a "cottage industry" type opening for us to show some of these ladies how to present themselves ?? grinWe could certainly recruit some fab models.

Annobel Sat 26-May-12 20:47:04

According to Graham Norton one of those grannies is only 44 - or was it 46. I think I spotted one who looked less lined than the others - taller too. glamma, surely the idea was to make them look as grannyish as possible, hence little or no make-up. Someone needs to meet Gnetters!

glammanana Sat 26-May-12 20:40:31

Anagram my thoughts exactly.I could change channels but football is on the other side and I don't feel in the mood to go looking through BT Vision.I'm messing about with this stupid tablet thingy and trying to download e-books confused

glammanana Sat 26-May-12 20:38:09

I have just watched The Russian Grannies I wonder if any of them are members of GN grinI must say I liked their national dress but the make-up left something to be desired !!

Anagram Sat 26-May-12 20:36:53

It's so quiet on here, I think everyone who's not out gallivanting is secretly watching Eurovision!

gracesmum Sat 26-May-12 19:32:57

There is something so compulsive in its awfulness and this is even more obvious as I watch Sir Terry on "Yesterday" with his overview of the last 50 years. You think it is bad now? It always was!

crimson Sat 26-May-12 19:17:26

On a betting front, my betting forum thinks Sweden to win and Serbia and Italy to do well. We'll see.

crimson Sat 26-May-12 16:22:28

I think we do but, as I said, I'm not sure that I'm correct. I might be getting confused that, as a founder country we automatically qualify. And I could be wrong about that as well [memory not so good and all that].

JessM Sat 26-May-12 16:14:34

Costing Azerbajan a fortune no doubt - but they have a very bizarre way of spending their money. There was a huge panic in ireland when Dana won - RTE just didn't have the dish - and then didn't a millionaire build a venue for it somewhere obscure where land was cheap? And then they won again?
I think it is a rather painful illustration of how unpopular Uk is in the rest of Europeandhalfofasia. When we only get a few votes.

We will be carrying on watching the current in-house addiction : The Good Wife. Just got to the end of series 2.

Anagram Sat 26-May-12 16:08:09

Yes, I know the winning entrant's country has to host next year's event, but I thought crimson was implying that we pay towards it every year...confused

Jacey Sat 26-May-12 16:01:39

I think so Anagram ...isn't that why Spain don't want their entry to win ...as it also means next year they'd have to foot the bill for hosting it? confused

Anagram Sat 26-May-12 15:48:58

We PAY towards it??? shock

crimson Sat 26-May-12 15:47:49

I think we have to because, as founder members we also have to pay more towards it...but I could be wrong about that. I do think that the quality of the music has improved a lot over the past few years, which is why I watch it now; it's also quite a good betting medium if you have the time to follow it through the preliminaries. I got Iceland, 2nd at 20/1 one year smile.

baNANA Sat 26-May-12 15:44:13

God knows why we bother entering this fiasco year after year, UK and Ireland have nothing to prove we have loads of World class acts unlike tin pot countries like Azerbaijan, (didn't know they were part of Europe anyway). The Eastern bloc countries tend to vote for each other and the winners will sink without a trace. The only act The Eurovison ever produced that are worth remembering were ABBA.

crimson Sat 26-May-12 13:11:05

Sebastian Bergmann in the Wallander with the man boobs, not the Wallander that I was in love with. However, I shall watch the repeat on Tuesday and hope he is wearing a shirt and not a t shirt.

Jacey Sat 26-May-12 12:55:03

Could watch football? shock
Lord of the rings? hmm
Sebastian Bergmann smile ...this definitely ...scandi withdrawal systems sorted!! grin

crimson Sat 26-May-12 12:49:31

I LOVE Eurovision, although haven't had time to 'study' it this year, so most of the songs will be new to me. Graham Norton is a good replacement for Wogan.

AlisonMA Sat 26-May-12 12:37:41

Glad I will be out watching Ladies in Lavender this evening!

Annobel Sat 26-May-12 12:20:54

DVD, jacey? I only ever watch the results coming in though it is nothing like as funny without a slightly(?) tipsy Terry Wogan putting his oar in. I can never forget him calling the Danish presenters 'Dr Death and the tooth fairy'. I think that got him into trouble with the Danes.

Jacey Sat 26-May-12 12:12:45

Surely there has to be something better to watch? grin

Annobel Sat 26-May-12 12:08:06

Tonight's the night! Are you going to watch it? I hope to find something better to do, but nevertheless, I hope the grannies will do well. If grannies - and grandpas - all over Europe forget all that political nonsense and vote for them, they will be big celebrities tomorrow - and for a few weeks. One of them is even older than Englebert! Cheers! grannies! wine
