Where is everyone? I know I'm not the only insomniac; been awake since 3.00 and I'm now bored....

Ariadne Tue 03-Jan-12 05:24:24

Good morning! Obviously eating and drinking and not sleeping in my own bed is the answer to waking up early! Now that I'm back home - back to normal. The wind is lashing rain against the windows, and I can hear the early commuters going off to work; would have been me - I am so glad I don't have to do that any more!

greenmossgiel Thu 29-Dec-11 17:48:37

What a good idea, Ganja! I don't use electric blankets, but it may be a good thing to put a hot water bottle in the bed just in case. As I keep saying to the 'snoring one', his snoring doesn't wake me up, it just prevents me getting back to sleep if I wake up or go to the loo during the night. Thank you for that - why didn't I think of it?!! It's the cosiness of the bed gthat lulls you back to sleep, isn't it!
yogagran, I think it would be a really good idea to replace your electric blanket. They can be a death-trap if not safe.

yogagran Thu 29-Dec-11 14:10:08

That's a great idea Ganja, I keep moving my electric blanket from double bed to spare bed, a second one would be better. I have had my electric blanket for more than 20 years, I do feel that, for safety's sake, I perhaps should replace it.

Ganja Thu 29-Dec-11 08:29:25

greenmossgiel Put an electric blanket in your spare bed and put it on low before you go to bed. Then when you need a refuge at 4am the chill will be off it for you, and I am sure you will go back to sleep, no problem. I always slope off to my beloved old brass bed after the first pee of the morning, and we both sleep through as long as we need to. Saves battle for the duvet too!

Ariadne Wed 28-Dec-11 08:15:41

Morning! Just up and feeling a lot better than I deserve to after super party last night. Must get moving - in Devon but off to Gloucestershire in a bit. Christmas lasts a week by the time we've done the circuit! Home on Friday.

JessM Wed 28-Dec-11 08:04:25

Glad you don't feel tired Libradi , it is very hard to know how much is enough isn't it. After 2 nights away i was shattered and slept from 9.30 to 7.30. A bit of surfacing but it was a good long stint.
My DH is on MIL duty so i have a couple of days to myself and then a weekend with him. Am resolved to tackle north face of my study. It is an untidy pit and i have gone off using it as a result. End up spreading work papers all over kitchen and lounge these days. DH v tolerant esp as he comes from hyper tidy family. SO. I am going to do an hour up there every morning until the paper it dealt with. Put some music on and get stuck in. It would be good to go into the new year with a new and welcoming study.

Libradi Wed 28-Dec-11 07:25:50

Morning, I managed to stay in bed until 6.30 this morning which is good for me and I don't feel tired so must have had enough sleep.
Carol thinking of you today having your other baby granddaughter home with her sister, how lovely, must be very exciting. thanks

I've just read the link in the Mail, Grannylin! What a great idea! I think we had a thread a awhile ago about separate beds/rooms, and loads of us agreed that it was so much more preferable! There is a cosy bed in another room JessM, and I don't know why on earth I didn't just creep into that at 4am...I think I was imagining it would be all cold! Anyway, I feel all cosy and 'cared-for' now by my lovely lasses on Gransnet! thanks

greenmossgiel Tue 27-Dec-11 16:01:06

Carol - how lovely! I'm so pleased for you all. What a long time you've waited for this. Tiny wee girls, bless them! Won't be long until they can see and hear each other again! And what a lovely lot you all are! Thank you all for your kind words of concern. I kept going though - off to Tesco's to do a bit of food shopping with my son, having a bit of breakfast with him first at Wetherspoons'. Then sat having a cuppa with him at his house....have come away from him feeling so much better. My imagination had been working overtime, thinking of all the worst things that can happen...don't know why, really. 'Worry Mode' had kicked in somewhere along the line. Sometimes all you have to do is SEE them, don't you? That's why I feel so sorry for those who can't do that.
Anyway, came back, did a bit of ironing, changed the bed, and am now sitting here with a lovely cup of tea (made by MYSELF, of course...angrygrin)!!

green Listen to what people are saying, and treat yourself as gently and kindly as you so clearly treat others! (((hugs)))

Grannylin Tue 27-Dec-11 13:25:42

green Be kind to yourself. Much love x

JessM Tue 27-Dec-11 12:52:19

green darling, really, running on empty not a good state to be in. Is sitting in the living room with a slippery eiderdown the kindest way to treat yourself in the middle of the night. I know not everyone has a spare bed... but was that the cosiest possibility?
(I am definitely sleeping better since i discovered the bliss of wrapping myself in a microfibre blanket, no sheet. They are pretty cheap and easy to wash and dry. They are surprisingly warm without getting too hot.
But that is a slight digression... or example...)
So here is my fairygrandmother wish for you 1. Locate your inner fairygrandmother 2. Imagine she is planning a cosy place for you to snuggle up with your book in the middle of the night if you are awake and he is snoring 3. Put plan into action. 4. Repeat the fairygrandmother's mantra : "I can't look after others unless I look after myself" or her other favourite "I have a right to take care of myself" xx
