Did anyone watch this last night? What an amazing group of ladies oozing with talent. It brought a tear to my eye and GA you and your family were in my thoughts as I watched.

Just caught up with the last one on i-player. It was just brilliant; what lovely ladies and amazing voices; that Sam was a gem and Gareth deserves a gong too.

DH and I wept together throughout most of the last programme. Having lived the service wife life myself I could relive my experiences like having both of my children with their dad away at sea. Managed fine at the time and developed a v stiff upper lip, but now all the emotion comes out.

Can't wait to buy the recording of the Remembrance Day song. Sure sit will be the Christmas number one.

Had a coffee in town with my husband this morning and he was humming the song and even remembered many of the words. He's a fairly accomplished musician and he said it's one of the loveliest songs he's heard in a long time.

The choir were originally planning to release the song as a single on December 5th but it has now been changed to December 19th with the aim of getting the Christmas #1. It will be raising money for the British Legion & SSAFA & Chris Evans will be supporting it on his programme.

It was my choirmistress, called Sam of the La La Choirs (you can google it) that taught the wives and girlfriends "thank you for the music" that they sang to Gareth. She travelled to Chivenor for 6 weeks to teach them that song!!! Our choir is very similar to the military choir. We give concerts for local charities to help them raise money. It is great fun.

I thought the performances of the Military wives choir were wonderful,in fact I blubbed all the way through the last program, Chris Evans of BBC Radio2 has been playing their specially written song, and was hoping that it would be realised on a CD in time that it might be the No 1 in the charts for Christmas, the last I heard was that it would not be released until the 19th December, shame.

Mrs JamJam - the words that the wives used were something like "You just get on with it." and that's how it was / is, isn't it - getting on with it. But watching "The Choir" makes you reponder it all.

I watched it last night in iPlayer and cried nearly all the way through. The song is beautiful and I am going to buy it when it's available.

I understand that it's being released later to give it a better chance to be No. 1 for Christmas.

My son went to school with Gareth Malone and they did the Drama Class together. He said he was very talented then but a bit of a twit - sorry fans

Does anyone else think he looks like David Tenant?

crimson Sat 26-Nov-11 17:10:39

He does. The difference being that, with Gareth one wants to mother him whereas with David, well, if I were a few years younger blush...

Gally Sat 26-Nov-11 17:40:07

Ooooh Crimson blush

Hattie64 Mon 28-Nov-11 21:00:35

Absolutely Crimson, Gareth is like a nice little boy you invite in for tea, wheareas David, that is another 'cup of tea'. When I stay at my daughters, my Grandaughter loves Dr. Who and all the walls are plastered with pictures of David Tenant and the new doctor whose name I have forgotton.

Notsogrand Mon 28-Nov-11 21:27:40

Oh Crimson, I feel similarly inclined. blush
Maybe the age difference isn't such a problem? Time Lords are quite old. wink

nanapug Mon 28-Nov-11 21:56:32

Is it wrong that I actually fancy Gareth? wink

Oldgreymare Mon 28-Nov-11 22:16:32

How lovely and how sad.... just saw that the lovely Kitty died this year. I hope the choir gave her a good send off! sad
Note to self: must stop watching Gareth Malone and his choirs.... far too emotional.

yogagran Mon 28-Nov-11 22:33:54

OGM - who was Kitty??

yogagran Mon 28-Nov-11 22:50:41

OGM I'm just about to start watching the Revisited South Oxhey choir programme I recorded earlier, so I feel sure that I will find out.

Oldgreymare Tue 29-Nov-11 16:03:13

Sorry to spoil it for you yogagran... call it advance warning to have a box of tissues at the ready. blush

yogagran Tue 29-Nov-11 23:12:20

That's OK OGM - sometimes it's good to be pre warned

Its a really lovely song , would be great if it became No1 for Christmas.

yogagran Fri 02-Dec-11 10:13:31

Did anyone hear Gareth and the choir on this morning's Chris Evans show? I missed it but hope to catch up with it later on iplayer

Libradi Fri 02-Dec-11 10:45:32

mrshat Fri 02-Dec-11 17:08:56
