If under 16s are considered too young for sex , at what age are you considered too old ?

janeainsworth Sat 31-Aug-13 09:24:43

Greatnan are these underarm creams in addition to the normal anti-perspirants?
I don't like the smell of sweaty armpits and mine would definitely smell if I relied on just washing them once a dayshock

Nonu Sat 31-Aug-13 09:53:52

I could not imagine not using an under arm deodorant !!
Don"t like the smell of stale perspiration!!Hmmm

Greatnan Sat 31-Aug-13 10:03:29

They are in addition to deodorants. They play upon women's insecurities. If your man doesn't like you because you don't put a moisturising cream under your arms, you are with the wrong man!

JessM Sat 31-Aug-13 10:04:06

I think Dove are running a long campaign about their special ingredients that care for your under arm skin as well as deodorising them. hmm
Re the douching etc we all have a complex coating of friendly bacteria all over our bodies. The particular mix varies between individuals and between different parts of the body. The blend in the vagina will alter after the menopause along with the cells that line it and the substances they secrete. (Thrush can suddenly clear up after decades of recurring outbreaks for instance.)
It is a microbial ecosystem down there, with complex interactions between bacteria and body cells.Combined with that the tissues become thinner and more fragile when oestrogen levels drop.
Soaps and detergents (body wash etc) are alkaline and tend to remove the friendly bacteria and alter the acidity balance - which may be a fragile one. Some of these products may aim to restore the balance, to a slightly more acidic one (which is good). But plain old water might be just as good.

kittylester Sat 31-Aug-13 10:07:30

If only it was that easy Mishap. I'm not sure Nellie was talking about douches but anything that offers any relief is welcome.

Mishap Sat 31-Aug-13 10:12:30

I realise that some have problems and did not mean to be unsympathetic - but I think douches in a healthy vagina are pointless.

Greatnan Sat 31-Aug-13 10:46:00

Not only pointless, but sometimes harmful, as my link shows.
Isn't it odd that we appear to be the only living creature that deliberately removes the odours which attract a mate! (Yes, I do use a deodorant, but I don't need it much since I have had no underarm hair for several years. I find that a bath or shower ever day, and clean underwear and tee shirt daily keep me quite fresh - not that anybody else gets near enough to notice!)

Elegran Sat 31-Aug-13 11:19:16

I thought a douche washed inside the vagina, not round the outside. Douches are definitely for the obsessed, so is determined scrubbing of the labia with strong cleanser - symptomatic of guilty conscience, IMO!

I see no problem in giving that area a quick wash with a mild unperfumed soap or gel and then rinsing it off well. A lot of the fragranced shower gels are just too strong for the sensitive skin there so why not use a specialised product, if you want to, but any unperfumed product from a trusted manufacturer should be OK.

Special skin creams for the oxters? Only if you have more money than sense.

janeainsworth Sat 31-Aug-13 11:53:07

Had to google that one Elegran grin

Granny23 Sat 31-Aug-13 12:24:30

I was brought up believing that 'oxters' was a very rude word, which is why I use it whenever the occasion presents itself. grin A while back someone sent me a list of products/adverts translated into Scots. I remember that my favourite deodorant became 'Doo Oxter Scoosh'.

Elegran Sat 31-Aug-13 12:39:53

Now a lot of posters will be wondering exactly where oxters are situated Granny23.

They are nowhere near your beheuchie. (now wonder about that!)

janeainsworth Sat 31-Aug-13 13:21:13

So Elegran is "Does my beheuchie look big in this?" a correct usage? grin

Grannylin Sat 31-Aug-13 13:55:41

I don't perspire under my arms and have never bought a deodorant in my life.......I lie, I sometimes buy Chanel No 5 because its cheaper than the perfume and spray it in my hairgrin

Granny23 Sat 31-Aug-13 13:57:00

'Beheuchie' was a favourite word of my father's. He used to avidly watch skaters on the TV, waiting for them to fall onto aforementioned part of their anatomy. Sometimes, if he felt he had overused the word he would substitute it with 'doofer'. I still hear people refer to beheuchies but never seem to hear about any doofers nowadays. sad

Elegran Sat 31-Aug-13 14:33:49

I know doofer as a useful word for anything you have forgotten the name of, or don't want to use in current company. It must be "I can't think of the right name but this'll doofer now." Like whatsit or oojimaflip.

Elegran Sat 31-Aug-13 14:35:34

Yes, Jane, absolutely correct usage. You might want to add "Hey, hen!" at the beginning.

Nelliemoser Sat 31-Aug-13 16:54:41

Hey you lot! That has woken me up!
No B****y way was I talking about douches. shock

I was not determinedly scrubbing anything either. I just reached the the point where gentle washing with even ordinary shower with gel caused irritation.

KittyL Understands what I mean and has explained the situation exactly as I would have done.

For those person lucky enough not to have experienced the discomfort of Atrophic Vaginitis I suggest they read this previous thread.

www.gransnet.com/forums/health/a1195635-Vaginal-atrophy

This is "vaginal dryness"plus some. Pre diagnosis and treatment it affected my comfort just walking.
Can I get off this thread and stop blushing now please. Never would I have ever thought my nether regions would provoke so much discussion and speculation!

annodomini Sat 31-Aug-13 17:04:21

Thanks Granny23. I'm very familiar with the word 'beheuchie', but don't think I've ever seen it written before.

Mishap Sat 31-Aug-13 17:45:54

Good luck with the nether regions Nellie - it sounds very uncomfortable.

Mine are fine - just in case anyone's dying to know! - but the rest of me is totally c**p!

kittylester Sat 31-Aug-13 17:53:49

All of me is c**p, Mishap but especially the nether regions. grin

Greatnan Sat 31-Aug-13 18:07:29

My mother had many Jewish friends from the garment industry, and always called her bottom her 'tokhus'. She was inclined to tell us to kiss it when we annoyed her.
I do sympathise with anybody suffering from the nasty symptoms of vaginal dryness - it sounds very uncomfortable.

Nonu Sat 31-Aug-13 19:09:06

I have googled tockhus & cannot find it !!

Is it a made up word ?

Ariadne Sat 31-Aug-13 19:16:59

It's actually "tukhus" (sp?) and it is Yiddish for backside / bottom / beheuchie.

janeainsworth Sat 31-Aug-13 19:56:02

It's interesting how words are transferred from language to language and culture to culture.
Does anyone else sit around in the morning in their disherbelly?
My family still does - a direct result of my grandfather's experiences nearly 100 years ago in the trenches in WW1.. from the French déshabillé.

susieb755 Sat 31-Aug-13 21:14:46

Gosh, I cant imagine DH ever giving up - his dad had 18 children, last one when he was 59 ! I think my DH will be the same
