I think Dove are running a long campaign about their special ingredients that care for your under arm skin as well as deodorising them.
Re the douching etc we all have a complex coating of friendly bacteria all over our bodies. The particular mix varies between individuals and between different parts of the body. The blend in the vagina will alter after the menopause along with the cells that line it and the substances they secrete. (Thrush can suddenly clear up after decades of recurring outbreaks for instance.)
It is a microbial ecosystem down there, with complex interactions between bacteria and body cells.Combined with that the tissues become thinner and more fragile when oestrogen levels drop.
Soaps and detergents (body wash etc) are alkaline and tend to remove the friendly bacteria and alter the acidity balance - which may be a fragile one. Some of these products may aim to restore the balance, to a slightly more acidic one (which is good). But plain old water might be just as good.

They are in addition to deodorants. They play upon women's insecurities. If your man doesn't like you because you don't put a moisturising cream under your arms, you are with the wrong man!

I could not imagine not using an under arm deodorant !!

I don't like the smell of sweaty armpits and mine would definitely smell if I relied on just washing them once a day

Vaginal douching! - I simply don't have the time! Leave it to nature, and when she packs up, go to the doc and see what she can come up with..

Are we talking about two different things? I know some women need artificial lubricants after the menopause, but they are not douches.

GN - natural lubricants - what are they?

Why use anything more than warm water? I know some of these douches wash away the natural lubricants supplied by nature.
We are now being told that our underarms need some special cream - manufacturers have worked hard to convince women that their natural odours are disgusting.

I kept thinking I had an infection, thrush or whatever, which turned out to be down to using ordinary shower gel in delicate areas. ouch!

The problem is when people with healthy normal tissues feel they should use them. Or when people use them instead of taking an infection to the doctor.

Greatnan I do not find these washes a con. Using anything else causes me a lot of discomfort. What I use is formulated for very "sensitive areas" and any normal washes I find really irritate. It's connected with with the Atrophic Vaginitis.

I think 'feminine washes' are a con - part of the great campaign to convince women that their normal scents are somehow wrong.

Kitty I was looking for feminine wash in a co-op pharmacy and it was on the very bottom right hand corner of a display shelf with condoms on.

Why not put it with the feminine hygiene bits? I thought it was just that chemist. Its clearly a man who works out these things.

I've been using Vagifem and found it very good until the manufacturers changed the dose from 25 micrograms to 10 but the maintenance usage remains the same at twice per week

Needless to say, it isn't working so well. I've resorted to buying something from Tesco at £8 per week until I can get to see my GP.

Thanks for all your info,seeing Doc next week she has promised me something with Oestrogen in it.Nothing seems to be relieving the awful itching,go to bed with sudocrem which helps me sleep.I really don't care if there's a risk with the Oestrogen,rather like to have a sex life again!,why does every thing have to stop just because I'm 66.wish me luck with Doc !!

Elenk - I started a thread at the start of the year called 'Vaginal Atrophy'. My friend was suffering terribly from this and so I asked the women on here if they had any advice for her. As usual, lots of useful information flooded in, and my friend E attended the hospital and has been prescribed Vagifem. It's really helped her. I hope you get this sorted out soon, because I know she was in terrible discomfort - even walking was painful.
