The gardener Sally Vickers

Has anyone read this? I listened to it on audio books and at the end I thought I must have fallen asleep at some stage! I can’t recall who wrote the diaries Hassy was reading. We’re they form the previous owners of the house ? Nell and Arthur I think. If anyone can explain I’d be very grateful . That is the trouble with audiobooks - not being able to flock back through the book. The other problem was SW narrating. She sounded too old for a forty something year old woman.
