I bought this jacket from East over 40+ years ago and I am still wearing it in the summer. It is 100% cotton, a little faded but I think it will see me out 😀

What is your oldest item ?

A Liberty print smock top and a black cape lined with Kingfisher blue satin, both bought in the Pussycat Boutique, Cambridge in the 1960s.

A wide tartan wool scarf in reds and greens. It was pqrtmofma suit set. The tunic top was all green wool and the short skirt almost mimi was,the same tartan as the scarf. It was by Emcar and I loved the whole outfit. I was 15 and wore it with leather shortish boots to the Boat Show at Earls Court. I went with a boy I sailed with.

The tunic and skirt disappeared off the scene years back but I kept the scarf. Thick wool. Sixty two years old. I wonder what happened to the boy?

I took these shorts on holiday to France when my son was 6/7 he’s 50 next week I still wear them in the garden and they fit better now than they did. A bit thin around the backside but still decent enough.

Lucky you to be a bit thin round the backside..........envy

I think lots of us have inherited items.
So lovely that they are still in use.
Some of mine have very happy memories attached to them.
😍

I’ve got two pairs of my mums boots from the late 60s one pair are grey snake skin , not real and the other are tan suede with laces up the front . Mum wore them with mini skirts and dresses . They fit me and I’ve worn them to 60s and 70s parties.
From my wardrobe I’ve got a pair of tan cowboy boots , I bought in the early 80s .
And a T-shirt and vest advertising a waterski school in Greece . It was my first holiday with my now DH and he introduced me to waterskiing. This was 1988 and the items still fit me , both are very soft and faded .

My wedding dress, Victorian (not repro). I also have a crocodile handbag that belonged to my grandmother, probably over 100 years old.

Bought new, two long sleeve t-shirts 51 years old.

My mum's honeymoon shoes that she wore in 1948. Black suede peep toe with a little platform, still perfectly wearable although I don't wear them as they are too precious!

A Dannimac from 1992, gifted to me in 1998 by an always glamorous relative. A summer top from 1987. I wore it last summer.

A straw boater acquired in 1962 (last used, for punting) in 1965.

My Guernsey jumper. 47 years old. Still looks like new.

Not posh or glamorous at all - my kitchen tabard has been in daily use for at least 25 years. I bought it at a craft fair.

My garden smock came from a company in Cornwall. It is made from twill cotton and has seen me through many a bramble and nettle patch. I love it because it is wind proof too. That is about 30 years old now.

Most of my clothes are charity shop purchases so well into their second lease of life already.

I had a beautiful Janice Wainright blouse which I bought over 50 years ago with some insurance money. I wore it until I got too busty! My daughter didn’t want it so I offered it to the V&A. They weren’t keen either so I offered it to the Museum of Costume in Bath. It is now in their collection.

My sheepskin jacket, over 50 years old and still wearable.

A long grey coat I bought in Winchester in the 1990s.
It still looks good, but I stopped wearing it when I decided that the high heeled boots I liked to wear with it were no longer a good choice for me.

I have a beautiful wool wrap that was my mother’s, bought from the charity my mother worked for, before my youngest brother was born so circa 1965?

A navy blue cashmere coat, classic style. Purchased in 1976. Still smart and in lovely condition.

My grandchildren love looking at old family photos of when they were little. My 19 year old granddaughter recently noticed that in one of her toddler photos I still have the long cardigan I was wearing then.

She’s very much into recycling/upcycling and was impressed. She was even more impressed when I told her I bought it when her 48 year old mum was a was a child 😆

I have 2 of them, a blue and a green. I think I bought them in C&A. They are a sweatshirt type material and they seem to be indestructible. I still wear them round the house and in the garden.

A white cotton smock top with embroidery round the neck and puffed sleeves from the late sixties/early seventies, a bit discoloured in places but still ok, I don’t wear it anymore but one of my DDs did with a pair of vintage jeans when in her early twenties.

dalrymple23 Tue 02-Jun-26 15:30:24

I recently discovered some of my mother's clothes (she was born around 1908) - a leather car jacket, a suede waistcoat, an embroidered waistcoat.

Discovered my wedding dress (yards and yards of wild silk), a couple of ball gowns, cocktail dresses (remember those?!), two pairs of Chelsea Cobbler boots - one knee length snakeskin, the other thigh length black leather and a handbag bought on the Champs Elysee in the mid sixties!!

No wonder we have no room to move!!

DancingDuck Tue 02-Jun-26 15:12:42

I think my oldest item is a pair of special edition Converse high tops from early 1990's !

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Jun-26 15:03:55

Oldest probably a pair of boots bought in Sainsbury’s twenty odd years ago, tan with a an inside zip, cost £30, still worn. I only keep stuff I wear, even my wedding outfit is long gone.

1960s Burberry trench coat given to me by an Aunt in 1980. I used to wear it a lot, but less frequently now.
I still have my wedding dress, with shoes and going away suit. (52 years old) They look about size6! No chance of getting into them now. 😂
