I've been trying to think of something to spread on toast for breakfast, preferably savoury. I don't like marmite and I'm tired of peanut butter. Any suggestions?

Smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Lidl does a lovely pistachio butter in its deluxe range and lots of lovely continental meats.

Not exactly spreadable, but mushrooms, sliced and lightly fried in butter or olive oil.

Peanutbutter, the very chunky sort with banana on sourdough or wholemeal toast. Although at the moment I'm leaving the toast out and just having a banana with peanutbutter as I tell myself its less fattening...

I saw potted meat in a butchers last week for the first time in years. I detest it, however, my late husband loved it. He’s been gone 19 years. Strange the memories it conjured up!

Lemon curd with sliced bananas

Bovril, much nicer than marmite.

Truffle pate. Expensive but a small jar goes a long way.

There's only one answer to this sort of question - and it's undoubtedly Stornoway Black Pudding! Come to think of it, I'd probably discard the toast and just have the Stornoway Black Pudding by itself. You won't regret it! smile

I wonder if Gentlemen’s Relish is still made. I remember my father loved it, but as a child I wasn’t keen.

I think I probably would enjoy it now though.

I am very partial to a toasted ciabatta roll, drizzled with olive oil and topped with the best fresh tomatoes you can find, and these can either be blitzed in the blender or sliced, then finished with some salt and pepper. This is a popular breakfast in Spain and I love it.

Local baker makes good currant bread light and not too sweet. Good toasted

Pate…it’s my favourite breakfast 😍

Our GC like 3 types of grated cheese on toast, grilled.

Yes I’d like recommendations for bread that makes good toast too. I’ve tried sour dough and it’s too crusty for me.

Poached eggs AND Avocado

Just good butter for me. I have toast about two or three times a week but usually with scrambled egg.
Funny how I have just started using peanut butter- but it is so dry!

Not savory, but if you're ever in the mood for sweet, I like apple butter or cinnamon sugar toast.

I had avocado on toast earlier this week. Tinned cherry tomatoes are nice too. There are various flavours of hummus, I like the moroccan one with felafel on a sandwich which might also work on toast. Depending on how much cooking you want to do in the mornings, how about looking at some restaurant menus online for inspiration? Eggs benedict is good and you could toast a muffin or a crumpet as a change from a slice of bread.

I love spread cheese on toast.
Good on crumpets, too.

Channel your inner Denise Royle and have dairylea on toast.

Folk suggesting she spreads yogurt on toast…yuk

Rarely varies.
Frozen blueberries, a spoonful of oats, a spoonful of mixed seeds with chia seeds, a dollop of Greek yoghurt and sprinkle of cinnamon.

How do you get that on toast without it turning soggy?

Another vote for sandwich spread

DeeAitch56 Wed 27-May-26 15:36:25

Paté
Heinz sandwich spread
