Holly tree

Hi, I don't have one but I passed by some in gardens earlier today and all looked healthy with new leaf growth.

Scale insect? They are almost impossible to eradicate.

My holly looks OK.

WEehave had a very dry spring. Is the tree suffering from lack of moisture?

Sounds like it is stressed for some reason. They don’t like too much alkaline, so you if you have that type of soil you could try feeding it with a balance - iron etc.

Or it could be too much water or insufficient water.

We have two. One green, one variegated….both are fine .

Possibly lack of water/rain. Ours drops lots of yellow leaves when that happens - like now!

Ours are fine including one which was cut to the ground by mistake two years ago and is now 4’ tall again.

We have a variegated Holly tree. It's leaves are yellowing. We haven't had a decent spell of rain for quite a while and the tree is stressed. DH waters the garden but the water butts (2) are empty so he's having to use tap water.

I had one that was about 6-8 years old and that died. I tried to save it but no luck. It was a lovely variegated one. However, about 5 foot away we have a dark green one thats a good 30 years old and that's fine. I have no idea what happened? I wondered if it was the soil as its was near my fence that backs onto a bridle path. The hedgerow is now quite big and it takes goodness from the soil? Mystery.

Thanks for all your messages. New growth showing on the ends. I'm going to water it, but tricky, under it over watering some bad.

Pleased you have some new growth showing. Keeping fingers crossed. I bought two variegated ones, in about 1985,
,one male, one female. One died this winter and the other is not looking too healthy. I am very sad.

As others have said, it is probably stressed. I find that new shrubs often suffer from lack of water so need to be given a good drink once a week or ten days for quite a few months.It takes time for new roots to establish. A good drink and a feed and it will hopefully recover.

Can you use neem oil?

Holly trees all look fine however two large camellias are showing signed of yellow leaves they were around when we bought house eleven years ago. They did flower well othe camellias are fine
