Thanks NotSpaghetti. I rang Opticon ,Unfortunately they cannot service an aid that that NHS originally gave me, as the NHS "uses a different technology".

The rnid run some local to us, so maybe worth trying them if that's not who you used to see

How very irritating Caleo - can you call the local NHS audiology department for help? I might start there.

NotSpaghetti, I'd call the local hospital-based audiology they used to be very good but years ago they outsourced the audiology dept. to Specsavers.

I must say the Opticon is a powerful aid, I suspect Specsavers use a cheaper aid now.
I only want the old Opticon cleaned and re-tubed. I don't believe this "different technology "business. There used to be some nice volunteers who did it in a church hall pre-covid.

If the aid was provided by the NHS then you should still be under their care. Have you had a review appointment in the last few years? Either a hospital audiology service or Specsavers should ensure your aid is correctly functioning.

Presumably you have spoken to Specsavers as you would think that if your care has been passed over to them they could clean it out for you. How hard can it really be one brand/type to another?

I bought myself new tubing as getting an appointment means waiting months and then it would be 30miles away. I bought the thin “things” too which you poke down tubes to clear any wax (very cheap). I think nowadays it is easier to do what you can yourself if you have the money that is. Just be aware I needed a magnifying glass to read the sizes on the tubing.
I used a company called Keep Hearing from the internet after reading reviews who were very quick to send out new tubes. Good luck.

Perhaps you would find these videos helpful if you have to do the servicing yourself.

should say om behalf of Specsavers that they provide eye and ear care at home for housebound NHS clients, and I am getting an eye appt with that service next Monday.

My problem is solely about servicing my old NHS suppliedOpticon hearing aids which I like a lot.

GrowStuff, thanks so much for your useful info. My daughter in law is a silversmith who is accustomed to fine work and I think she may do for me what you do about servicing hearing aids. I have seen these bits and pieces advertised on Google.

Error :Oticon not "Opticon"

Even worse error by me: it was OldBatI (NOt Growstuff) who DIYs her hearing aid and advised about the "thin things" for cleaning the tubes.
