Quote for my car service

I’ve just had a quote for an annual service from my car dealer for my car which is 5 years old. I nearly fell off my chair!

I don’t use my car on a regular basis but it is useful for visiting friends and family who don’t live on a bus route and I don’t want to sell it as I enjoy driving.

Has anyone used a non dealership garage to carry out a service and how will this affect the value of the car when selling it?

Thank you everyone. Very reassuring comments. I just need to find a reliable garage now as I’ve recently moved to Sheffield.
