Anyone forgotten to complete online grocery order?

GSM Our daughter never did it again! She has a busy life and has a shocking memory.

DD3 sent her Tesco order to her old house. Tesco were brilliant, took it back to the depot and redelivered it.

I use Sainsburys and book up my delivery a week in advance. I use the list from a previous order to secure the slot. The way to do this is once you’ve reserved the slot you click on favourites. Previous orders will come up. Select one of these and add it to your trolley. That way you will at least get items you normally use. Not so disastrous if you forget to amend. I realise this will be different with other supermarket’s sites.

My daughter used to put in 2 bottles of vodka to keep the slot.
I was staying with her for a week and she forgot to complete the order. I was getting ready to leave when the delivery came, 2 bottles of vodka!
Somehow this was seen as my fault, I had to leave under a cloud.

I've not done it yet, but it will probably happen sooner or later. It will be a very expensive bottle of milk!

What I did do a couple of months ago, having completed my mum's online shop for her (i started this when Covid first struck), was accidently delete the whole order including the slot. I thought I was deleting the slot for the following work, and only realized my mistake after pressing 'confirm' .
Needless to say, there were no slots whatsoever available for the same day when I tried to re-book.
I always stick two bottles of whisky in Mum's trolley to reserve her slot, then delete them when I complete it. At least if I ever forget to complete it, she will be able to drown her sorrows

I haven't forgotten to order but I have forgotten to cancel and had Ocado and Sainsbury turn up at once (I often alternate between the two). I just told the driver of Sainsbury and he said 'no problem' and took it back.

I have to confess to opening the door to a laughing Sainsburys driver holding out 2 bottles of Veuve Cliquot........I kept them to teach myself a lesson ?

We have weekly delivery orders but such is demand you have to book a fortnight in advance. My trouble is I get the delivery on a Friday relax and plan the weekend's food.
You cannot book for the fortnight in advance that day so it falls on Saturday. I am usually deep in the Times when I remember but this week it was Monday I got the last slot booked with a bottle of Champagne which will eventually get cancelled.
DH has put something on my laptop to remind me on Saturday I am waiting in anticipation to see if it works. I was just going to put a post-it note on the computer but we have to keep up with technology. The post-it note is still going on!

Kate, tell her just one apple, anything, will reserve the slot - no need to put £40 worth in.

Oopsadaisy Tesco are still very accommodating and will take anything back that you don't want.

I put the entire contents of a previous order in the basket to reserve my slot. Then I just have to go through the basket when it comes to amending it. Many things are the same, milk, cheese, veg etc. so it's less work amending it.

I live in fear of forgetting! When I book a slot I just put a bag of potatoes in the basket whether I want them or not - you don’t have to put £40 worth of goods in as some people think. I’m sure the day will come when I forget and the man turns up with just a bag of spuds!

PS I always leave the confirmation of the order on my ‘new email’ page so that I see it every time I open my emails, it helps to jog my memory.

Tesco sends me a text the day before my delivery is due asking if I need anything else. They also send me an email. That way, I definitely don't forget.

I did once, the driver arrived with a bag of onions, a loaf of bread and a bottle of lemonade.

To be fair he took it back and I got a full refund, which I didn’t expect. It was Tescos, but it was along time ago, I’m not sure they would be so accommodating nowadays.

I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only forgetful person! I’m going to put an entry in my diary reminding me to finish my order the day before delivery is due! Just hope I remember to read my diary!

I reserve my slot with 4 boxes of dh's lager. He has nearly finished the last lot. My next door neighbour has done the rum one. At least DH drinks the lager.

No as I’m on a weekly delivery. But I have nearly had two lots at a similar time as I sometimes flip to Asda from Tesco if I want specific items, it was only the reminder txt from Tesco to makes last minute changes that reminded me to cancel that one.

I reserve the slot with a £40 bottle of rum. So far I haven’t forgotten to do the correct order and delete the rum, but I live in fear of doing so. I don’t even drink alcohol! Maybe I should think of £40 worth of things I actually like, just in case.

I usually prefill my online shopping basket with large boxes of cat food to save the date and then go back to amend it when I've got that weeks shopping list.

Needless to say, at times I've missed the amend time OR forgotten to click the confirm button and had £40 worth of Whiskas delivered. ?

Yes. At the beginning of the pandemic I paid £7 for 2L milk. Tescos must have known it was a mistake.
Someone on GN told me off for complaining.

I also have a two weekly online order, but I have a routine so I'll never forget to amend my basket and book my next order before the deadline. I suggest you set an alarm (computer, mobile or watch) a few hours before the cut-off time. Or write on on your wall planner or in your diary. Whatever works for you.

Tesco do! I had a delivery one Sunday morning of just a box of tonic water cans. The driver kindly offered to say we weren't in when he called, and cancelled the payment (plus the surcharge for not ordering a minimum basket amount).
