Bladder botox

I don't understand botox. What are the toxins in your bladder? Are they not pee'd out? I understood that urine is sterile when it leaves the body.

Please can someone explain?

A friend has them a couple of times a year and they’ve been a life changer! She had got to the point when she could hardly leave the house and nothing else had worked!

It's not an April fools.
It's for an overactive bladder. But I also have bladder incontinence. The specialist thinks it could help both.
There's a slight chance I could need to catheterise myself, I really don't want to do that....
But botox injections are being offered now before any surgery to fix the incontinence.

annsixty You are right it's me!! I have this done every 9mths for over active bladder I have had it done for the past 8 yrs and it has changed my life around.I used to have to know where every toilet was when I went out anywhere at one time.
The only downsize is that your body tells you when the treatment is failing and a new appointment is needed,I find it starts to lose function after about 7mths so an appointment is made which takes about 8 weeks to come through.My next appointment is in June,it is a pretty painless procedure.

Thank you for the info, peeps. Another question: I gather that the expression "overactive bladder" means that someone suffering this needs to pee very often. Does that mean that you are also thirsty very often or is the amount of urine the same as it would be anyway but your bladder can't hold it for some reason?

They are knocking me out the first time. Do you have yours just with a light sedation?

My eldest daughter had this carried out a few years ago. Did work for her.

Apologies Purplepoppies, as you can see I have never heard of this procedure. It sounds as though it is very helpful. Do you have to be referred by your doctor?

I don't know which is worse, " over-peeing " or " storing " it like a camel ( myself ) Both are stressful complaints, except that in my own case when the heart/circulation doesn't do its job efficiently excess fluid builds around the kidneys which makes the belly feel like a hot water bottle.
Obviously I've had to take a diuretic for years so that this doesn't happen ( Spironolactone ) but it doesn't make you "wee wee wee all the way home ", it's quite normal.

My cousin's wife was having these for some years - she's in her early 80's and suffered with incontinence. They did work for her - she has some other problems now so I'm not sure if she is still having the injections.

It's fine Alima. Yes my initial referral was by my gp to urogynae. I underwent flow and hold tests (dignity at the door ladies) and finally got an official diagnosis of both overactive and stress incontinence. I had already been prescribed tablets to combat the overactivity.

Waiting for this to be done, how have people got on with self catheters? My next appointment is to be taught how to do this, fills me with dread ? do you walk around with it attached?

No, it's intermittent catheterisation, not an indwelling catheter

You'll be given a supply of disposable catheters which you use once then throw away - you'll soon be adept at the procedure so don't worry.

Is the catheter down there, or somewhere else?

Yes it's down there inserted into the urethra - urine is drained then the catheter is disposed of.

There’s a Facebook group for overactive bladder and lots of women have had Botox so should be able to answer your questions.
