Stockpiling?

It's ok! If we run out of toilet rolls we gave a huge stack of Dh's Nottingham Forest programmes and it's quite apt really as they have been doing cr*p lately - apparently!

As for toilet rolls, I heard it on good authority today that we do not have enough factories in the UK to manufacture enough toilet paper to wipe the arses of the nation. This would be the worst possible consequence of Brexit for me. Fortunately I have had the good sense to save newspapers to cut into squares and thread onto string.
Not much comfort though if you get all your news online.????

Rapeseed oil’s great for frying and roasting, as it doesn’t smell. I’ve never tried the cold-pressed sort. At the moment we’re using argan oil, from Morocco, on our salads. It has to be the food grade sort though, not the stuff you put on your hair and skin.

Come to think of it my coffee comes from the Netherlands.

I know where tea and coffee comes from, surprisingly enough! I think there could well be problems with the supply chain. So any way it will get used in the end!

Over the last few months I've been stealthily encouraging DH to eat more vegetable based meals so I suppose you'd say we're more 'flexitarian' than vegetarian.

The last time he helped me unpack the shopping he commented on the number of tins of pulses, tomatoes etc., I'd bought. Knowing that any mention of a diet ending in 'arian' is likely to send him into a steep decline I told him I was stocking up for Brexit.

He nodded approvingly.

I remember the loo roll shortage. Luckily, I had access to supplies so was able to acquire a couple of rolls each week.

Also the sugar shortage, which was dire for us as we made our own wine, back then. There was a glass shortage, too, i seem to recall, as I remember buying Marmite in tins. Let's not forget the electricity shortages, too - the rolling power cuts that meant you had to plan exactly when to cook your dinner, if you only had an electric cooker.

Yes I did try rapeseed oil once, but it seemed as expensive as olive oil, but without any flavour. I suppose it would be better than lard ?

Isn’t the UK the 6th largest economy in the world? I’m sure I read that somewhere.

I still do not understand why some people think UK, as a small independent country, would have to buying power /pressure to strike money saving deals.

We know independent corner shops are more expensive because they do not have the benefit of the supermarkets who buy in greater quantity so can broker better deals which is the same as UK vs EU!

Remember the toilet roll shortage of the ?1970s (a manufactured shortage apparently)?

I intend to stockpile all DH'S magazines ready to cut into squares to hang on a hook on the lavatory door [smug]

It has a higher 'smoke point' than olive oil too

As we will be staying in the EU, no point fussing. I have consulted my crystal ball and it has never been wrong- watch this space. I do not charge much if you want to know anything.

I wasn't aware of this trend for stockpiling, except for meds, until earlier this month. I've seen a suggested list which included such arcane items as 2 x packs of stuffing and 2 x trifle kits!

If the situation ends up that dire, I doubt I'll be faffing around making trifle.

Remember the Millenium Bug (Brexit)? All the world's computers were going to collapse on the stroke of midnight on 31 December 1999 ( all systems will break down on 19th March 2019) and we would (will) descend into crisis with food shortages, medicine shortages, failure of all Emergency services.

What actually happened (will happen)? zilch, nada, nothing

Wish our surgery would allow stockpiling of Mr C's medication. Vital for his wellbeing, could be ambulance unwell without it. The pharmacist explained from whence it came and yes, there could well be supply disruption. Our surgery won't agree to an early repeat prescription so we will just have to hope. As Mr C says, worrying won't change anything.

Only concerned about meds - making sure nothing on repeat prescription is about to run out.
