I had a Mazda MX5 for 12 years and I loved it.
Reluctantly parted with it a couple of years after I retired because it was rusting away & consumed too much fuel. But I do miss it.

the car will be brand new. It used to be a low sporty type care but now it is more sturdy. It is not the same car. Just loved each different model they brought out

Live your dream Westerly, why shouldn’t you. We have a Peugeot 3008 SUV, comes with lots of kit including reversing camera, so reverse parking is super easy. I love the high driving position.

Go for it, Westerly - time to treat yourself! You are never too old! Hope you enjoy many hours of happy driving. DD has a low-slung sports car; it suits her, but the seats are very low and the door-sill is high, so I have to lift my legs over when getting out, but I do enjoy riding in it.

We have a Toyota Rav and it's very easy to reverse because it has a camera. New petrol hybrid ones should be economical and I imagine good deals available as new version due in 2019. We love ours and would buy another.

westerlywind. If you have watched a car for decades I don’t think that you could refer to it as new.
Perhaps newish would be more apt.

The WW was actually meant to be VW. I tried a VW Touran and could not manage the height from seat to ground.
This is the first ime in my life where I can have any car I want. I dont have to be sensible for other people's reasons. I only have to take into account my size and age.
It is a SUV but I am not sure it is sporty. It is a make which is admired.
My finances are fine for this car. I would imagine that any parts would be costly. For other reasons I really want to SKI, spend kids inheritance.
I have had a Driving Licence for nearly 50 years but certain people who have only had a Licence for a couple of years have been telling me constantly that I cant drive! It caused me to doubt myself.
Currently I have a very average car. It does fine and I would recommend it to anyone. I have thought of buying another of the same but higher spec. However this is the only time in my life when I have been able to afford a car I have watched for decades. I did wonder if it was too late given my age.
I will check it out thoroughly including reversing as I have to reverse a lot at the house. I think after Christmas I could do a good deal on a new car.

It all depends on your means, an exciting, sporty SUV which I guess is what you are looking at has a price tag and high running costs. If you can afford it go ahead but dont let your heart rule your head, there are plenty of modest cars that do the job for half the cost.

I know it seems obvious, but when you test drive it make sure you practice reversing as some 4x4 surprisingly have poor visibility in the rear 3/4. I fancied getting a Mokka X as they had big discounts on preregistered cars, but the rear visibility was awful when I test drove.

You go for it. I love my car, it is a very smart MB soft top which is a dream to drive.

Go for it. You are only to old for anything if you allow yourself to be.

Buy what you want but definitely make sure you test drive it and it is suitable for your requirements including getting in and out as you get older.

I've had quite a few cars over the years including two 2 seaters - one I gave up when I had to start transporting my elderly parents around and the other I started to feel I couldn't see properly as it was so low. My husband loved it (Audi TT) but as it was very old he worried it would start to cost money. I changed again 18 months ago to a small Aygo and although I like it I do miss the power - I couldn't manage a big car now though - my husband has a big 4 wheel drive and I've never driven it.

Get it ! I have a black John Cooper Works Mini . I do get looks but im sure they are of envy not because of the roaring noise it makes

Yes yes yes go for it. I had a sports car many many years much to everyone’s surprise. Kids ribbed me about it but bought me personalised number plate because they knew how I loved it. Recently changed to a sensible one to accommodate grandchildren. How I wish I still had my sports car. I’m in my late 60s and grey haired. I would say just check practical things like easy parking, getting in or out. Let us know what you decide. Enjoy it.

Just have a test drive. If you like it and can afford it buy it and enjoy it. What you look like and what other people might think is totally unimportant.
