What is the 'perfect example'? Who are the swarm? You've used that word about me and others in the last few weeks on several occasions and it's deeply unpleasant . Using it in connection with DA could be seen as racist given that DC used it in connection with immigrants. What a fine example of Christian love and charity so many of your posts are annie.

I didn't hear TM talking about her childlessness, perhaps because all the reports were focusing on how she was saying things rather than what she said, but I really don't see the relevance of what is essentially a private matter between TM and her husband. Her speech writers got that wrong. I agree with Jen that perhaps the throat problem was not a cold, as claimed, but more of a nervous clenching of the throat, she realised this was an important speech and also could see that dreadful row of faces looking at her, and many hoping she would fail (Shapps, Boris, Leadsom, Gove etc., etc.). It is enough to make anyone's mouth go dry and larynx contract.

Yes I am sure it was due to nerves and not a cold as there was no evidence that she had a cold earlier in the week.

Then the comments about how surprising it was to find her sporting, sorry, making a "fashion statement" with the Kahlo bracelet. Here's a thing: it's possible to admire an aspect of a person's life/character/work/artistic output/whatever without agreeing with their politics (or religion, or any other aspect). Why should TM's wearing of the bracelet mean anything more than that TM likes the art Kahlo produced?

I think it's very likely that I would disagree politically or dislike on a personal level quite a lot of artists whose work I like. This applies to all forms of art: writing, drawing, painting, you name it.

And, in parallel, it's possible to strongly dislike something a person says or does or makes without writing them off or disapproving of them completely.

I have just got back from a week away so haven't posted but for those saying her problem was a contraction of the larynx I would say that I have had what appears to be the same affliction and believe me it knocks you for six, your throat is incredibly sore, your voice cracks and it becomes painful to speak, all this in addition to a hacking cough and stuffed up nose which makes it difficult to breathe. The friend who had it before passing it on to me (kind soul) actually took to her bed for 4 days.

Considering that those of us who say we agree with Corbyn are accused of being trots and marxists, it's no wonder everyone is commenting on May's choice of adornment.
Annie should be calling May a Stalinist, judging by her posts on here.

Swarm, herd, colony, army - they are all collective nouns in common use. Why is the word swarm offensive? It's a term for a group of things, a crowd if you like.

Why shouldn't it be used? Maryeliza you are really clutching at straws to find fault in others and it reflects on you that you want to control the vocabulary others use. What next? Their thoughts?

So many on the left are having a whale of a time criticising May for not being able to deliver her speech well because of her cough and throat letting her down. It's the worst thing that can happen to anyone having to address a crowd - and with it being televised around the world too. It was awful for her and that she struggled on is to her credit.

If you leave politics aside, so much of the criticism of her delivery has come from the left - people who'd like you to believe they are the compassionate amongst us. They are not. They are day by day proving themselves to be loud-mouthed, foul-mouthed and aggressive bullies.

If that is compassion in action - some of the remarks about her have been nothing less than vile and cruel - then I'll never associate myself with them. I have nothing but admiration for those left wingers who have also had the decency to sympathise and post that they admired her courage in carrying on.

Any minute now I'll be told that 'TM is cruel'....the typical riposte from the unthinking.

We had 13 years of Labour government not so very long ago - 13 long years. Try telling people that was successful and all our problems were obliterated.

TM or Corbyn? That's our choice and I for one fear Corbyn chaos and the cruel, loud-mouthed bullies he has as henchmen. But delight in TM having a cold and struggling to speak....That speaks volumes.

The wisdom of the Corbynites is amazing, they know May's cough was not caused by a cold which reporters who interviewed her earlier in the week have said she had, they know she didn't have a cold.

They know the true reason she chose to wear a bracelet , she hasn't said why she chose it but they know.

Th definition of swarm as given in the Cambridge dictionary is incorrect, they know it is racist.

Great post Day6. I really admire Mrs May, I admire dignity and courage, have no need to agree with a persons politics to admire them as people. Have always liked Ken Clarke, find Jacob Rees-Mogg's sense of humour is great, couldn't care less that he hasn't changed his baby's napkin or has affection for his nanny, yet these trifles trouble some on the far left.

Having watched Theresa May's speech live and in full she was speaking clearly at the start - no coughing. Only after the P45 was delivered did she start looking flustered and started coughing. So I think the cough was mainly a nervous reaction. That sequence of events doesn't come across in news reports.
I still feel sorry for her though. How awful for that major speech to be such a disaster! But as a Labour supporter I can't wait to see her go.

I heard Ken Clarke interviewed after TM's conference speech. He was straightforward and entertaining during the interview, as he usually is. He said he likes TM and described her as a loyal and dedicated politician. I always felt the tories missed a chance in never having Ken as leader.

The key thing is the policies. I've disliked the news coverage which described her speech as disastrous, no comments about the policies just repeated references to letters falling off signs, "pranksters" and her cough.
