I need a new casserole dish

I have a very heavy, large French cast iron casserole dish which is lovely but seldom used because it is so heavy; I can scarcely lift it without anything in and have to get DH to put it in and out of the oven.

I get tendonitis in my wrists so le Creuset is out of the question for me! My local, well-regarded cookshop recommended the Commichef to me and apparently, it's been flying off their shelves, people are so pleased.

Many years ago I bought a tefal casserole dish in a hyper market in France. It is in regular use still . It is very lightweight and non stick.

SueDonim does the commischef perform as well as the le creuset ? i had my le creuset for 25 years and have just given it to my DD as i couldn't pick it up anymore. I take it the commischef is much lighter

I use an 'All Clad' 5-qt stainless saute for hob to oven. Sourced from amazon.

If you don't turn up the hob too high, you can use a Pyrex. But watch that the lid isn't too deep - I have one which, when I put it in the oven, I can hardly fit another shelf over the top of it.

Grannypiper I've never had a Le Creuset so I couldn't say, sorry.

Le creuset do a very nice stainless steel non stick sauté pan with a glass lid in various sizes. You can use it on the hob or in the oven. I use mine for alsorts of different meals. Look at the John Lewis website or other online sites. It is not cheap though but light in weight.

I have Pyroflam dishes, you can use them on the hob and in the oven and even put them in the freezer. Available from amazon and Argos.

I have Pyroflam dishes too harrigran. There were on offer at Tesco 2 or 3 years ago with saver stamps. I got two of them, a 2L and a 3L, for very little cost - if I remember rightly it was something like £5 for the smaller one and £8 for the larger. Very good they are too.
